"Can I claw its eyes out?" You whisper.

Matt ignores you, still taking aim. His right eye is pressed to the scope on his sniper rifle.

"I take that as a yes." You settle down in the snow, a smug grin on your face.

"Take that as a no." Matt said in a monotonous voice.

You pause. "What? Why not?"

Matt puts his finger on the trigger. "We show mercy even to the cruelest of the animals." He murmurs before squeezing the trigger. No shot rings out due to the silencer on the barrel.

You watch as the man drops to the snowy ground. "Poachers..." You growl.

Matt clicks on the safety and peers down the scope once again, but this time at moose he'd just saved.

You touched Matt's arm carefully. He grunts. "Want to get some hot chocolate?"

Matt grunted and shifted to his feet form where he was laying on his stomach. He then moved to help you up. You took his hands with a smile.

When you were on your feet and were starting the long walk back towards Matt's pickup, the back of your neck started tingling. You didn't have the time to check over your shoulder.

A gun shot sounded and a brutal pain ripped through your left shoulder. With a gasp of pain and a spurt of scarlet blood, yoy fell to the ground; just as the poacher had.

"(Y/n)!" Matt yelled. His purple eyes scanned the white horizon. Growling in frustration, he lifted his riffle and peered down the scope. "That son of a bitch." He growled, lowering the weapon.

He crouched beside you and dug into his pocket, pulling out his keys. "Get back to the car and stay there." He ordered as he pushed the keys into his hands. As soon as you'd curled your fingers around them he took off at a run towards the shooter.

"Matt!" You call after him, but he doesn't turn back. You pull yourself to your feet and stumble towards the truck.

You jam the key in the ignition and start the truck as soon as the door swings shut with a bang. Worry pooled in your stomach as you sat in the car. It wasn't quite warm yet and you could still see puffs of your breath.

The throbbing pain in your shoulder pulled your attention away from your worry. You pull off your coat and gingerly touched the blood soaked wound. There was no exit wound so the bullet was still in your shoulder.

The driver side door slams shut and you jump, screaming a little. You were prepared to fight but noticed with a sigh of relief it was just Matt. He was covered in blood and you knew it wasn't his.

Without a word, he buckled himself in and drove away. "Doesn't look like showed him much mercy." You chuckled nervously.

"I did not." He says, focused on the slippery road ahead. "I don't show mercy to cowards."

"He's dead?" You ask quietly.

"Clawed its eyes out." Matt sneers.
