The thought seemed all so distant
Like a third or fourth cousin
But the reality I didn't see it
Sleeping next to me
The pain I was trying to run from
Was the entity I sought so hard
The budding rose grew her thorns
To hide herself
To protect her blossom
Hugging tighter
Thorns stabbing deeper
Bore the pain to make it better
Watching tears fall to the ground
Watering the thorns I cut from my back
Bloodied and bruised I hid it
Covered by my front
Waiting for the thorn to puncture my heart
