Tristan refused to take the chains off. He insisted on presenting me to Brae as a prisoner.
I chinked the whole way down to the quay.
But when I turned the corner and they came into view, I forgot all about my shame, about the weight of the chains on my arms.
The sight that met me sent daggers into my stomach. I crumpled, unable to hold myself up any longer.
The pain was even more intense in my chest, where my heart must have been shattering into a thousand tiny pieces.
I moaned, as Tristan turned to yank on the chain. Trying to speed me up. Drawing attention to us.
Brae's eyes left Jasmine's, a contented smile spreading across his face.
Then his gaze met mine.
And my lungs emptied of air.
