Chapter 1: Founding Day Parade

It was the last day of summer vacation, as well as the founding day of the Republic of Avalon. It's been forty-eight years since we've been living like caged birds from the Chimera virus and today the entire nation was going to celebrate it's anniversary.

The nation was separated into four districts and each district supported Avalon in their own way. In the first district were the politicians and the families of war generals, if you were hoping to get into a top-notch school and contribute to the rottening of society then you'd have to be as spoiled and pampered as those nobles.

The second district consisted of all that were to good for the third district citizens but not good enough for the first district citizens. The people in this district contributed by producing weapons to defend against the Chimeras on the other side of our walls. They also created medication to treat the virus, however they only worked during stages 1-2 of the virus, not to mention that it didn't really cure you.

Then there was the third district, the district I'm from. Here you could find all the civil workers like reporters, chefs, farmers, cab drivers the works. Sure you could live in a higher district depending on your job. Like my elder brother he was a engineer, darn good on to, he worked as the Head of Research and Technology's personal mechanic.

Finally there was the fourth district otherwise known as the dump district. Basically all our trash goes there and people somehow live of our trash. Kind of inhumane but everyone over looks it.

"Good morning Keagan Price, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Chicken burger," I replied.

My parents died when I was child and my brother lived in the first district, so I had to depend on a housemaid robot for food whenever I was to lazy to cook for myself. The robot itself was an older model, kind of resembled R2D2 from that 90's movie Star Wars. I had set it's audio to "cute Japanese" however it didn't sound cute or in any sense Japanese.

"Here you go!"

"Don't forget to take this months vaccine!"

I ate my burger whilist looking at the syringe. There was always a vaccine to be purchased every month to better protect oneself from actually developing the virus. Miss one of these and you're screwed. At times like these I find myself wishing I was a robot or a cyborg.

The housemaid robot then crackled and began emitting smoke triggering my apartments smoke detector.

"THERE IS SMOKE DETECTED IN YOUR APARTMENT, PLEASE EVACUATE!" my detector alerted.

I quickly disabled the detector before it activated the the sprinkler system, I wouldn't want to repeat that incident again. These were the times where I was glad that I was still human.

I finished breakfast and took my vaccine and then headed to the train station after taking a shower and getting appropriately dressed. Today was the only day where everyone from all districts could go into first district before the maximum capacity was met, to view the founding day parade. I boarded the magnet train. This train was much different to the others, as it was a train exclusively used in first district.

It didn't take that long to arrive at the station in first district. I met my brother, Samuel at the help center, awaiting me.

"Yo Keagan, you look fine," my brother teased.

I looked like third district trash.

"Please, I look sexy!" I joked.

We had a deep long chat in my brother's new car as he drove us to the venue of the parade. With my brother's job it wasn't hard to get a car like this, he usually sends credits to my account. With that kind of cash I could easily get a cooler housemaid robot, however I couldn't possibly do that.

We arrived at the parade grounds and got ourselves some good seats. The Head of Research and Technology came over to us along with his family.

"Ah, Samuel, glad to see you made it, is this your brother?"

"Yes sir, this is my younger brother Keagan," my brother introduced me.

"Yes, he seems to be my daughter's age, I'll get him into a top University offering him whichever career he chooses," he said whilst offering me a hand shake.

"You'd do that for me?!" I asked in complete surprise.

"Why ofcourse, anything for my engineer's little brother,"

My brother then turned to me smiling widely.

"Well I'm going to greet the others, we have a huge unveiling to discuss," the Head said while waving his hand as he walked away with his family.

"Holy fuck..." I whispered

"Holy fuck indeed," Samuel said whilist patting me on the shoulder.

We took our seats and proceeded to watch as the parade enfolded itself. They revealed some of mechs that was created over the years to defend against Chimeras, they were all first and second generation models. They also revealed the exoskeletons that the the military used and various combat approved suits,they had a range of different capabilities, my favorite was the cloaking model. This was the career path I desired to pursue, robotic engineering.

Finally the Head of Research and Technology came to present their latest creation.
"Citizens of the Republic of Avalon, I Jeremiah Wellington as well as my staff, has made for this nation an artificial super intelligence, called System Oberon. This system will be able to coordinate both disaster inside and outside of Avalon's walls and with enough time, put an end to the Chimera virus. This system far exceeds it's predesseors because of it's implemented evolutionary code. Meaning Oberon doesn't need to be updated by us it will update and defend itself and every other device within our nation. With one push of this button System Oberon can go viral. So now we will put it to a vote how many of you wish for this kind of system?"

It took absolutely no time for hands to reach the air, even my hand was to the air. After all with this kind of system I wouldn't need to worry about my maid bot bugging itself out, amongst other important things.

Suddenly the screens that broadcasted the the Head's speech were hacked into and an unfamiliar face took the screen.
