Brendon grabbed Ryan's acoustic guitar and sat on the edge of the bed. His gingers wrapped around the neck and pressed down against the strings as his other hand strummed them gently.
The next category they had to preform were duets. And they only had a mere 24 hours to do it. They were partnered with their mentor, but all aspects of the song had to come from them. What song they sang, who sang each part, the arrangement; it was all up to Brendon. And as much as he had told Sarah he was ready, he wasn't. At all.
The fact of the matter was, their weren't many male duets out there. Well at least, none that he could think of right away. He took a deep breath and stopped playing, he sets the guitar down next to him and sighs, hands reaching to grab for Ryan's songbook. He flips through the pages, smiling gently at the crossed out songs. They were all great but they all had the same note next to him. 'Needs stronger vocals'. Brendon wondered what that meant. Ryan would sound great singing any of these songs.
As if on cue, Ryan steps out of the bathroom, hair tussled by Brendon's fingers. He smiles softly at Brendon and moves to sit next to him, kissing Brendon's shoulder gently. "Ugh. You're reading that again?" He asks, fingers moving to grab the lyric book, but Brendon quickly jerks it out of his grasp.
"All of these are fucking beautiful Ry." He shakes his head, "became as mad as rabbits, with bushels of bad habits, who could ask for anymore? Yeah who could have more?" He sighs, a smile forming on his lips as he keeps reading. "God, you're a lyrical genius. Why the hell aren't these songs out?"
Ryan shakes his head, looking at the pages over Brendon's shoulder. "Those songs were written for someone with a much better voice than mine. I'm soft, cowardly. They need to be sing by someone with a big voice and a bigger ego someone..." He pauses, licking over hi lips gently. He wraps his arm around Brendon's waist, pulling him closer. "Like this song. It's supposed to be a duet but I--" he looks up. Brendon's eyes are shining, and his lips are pulling up into a devilish smirk. "No."
Brendon's smirk only grows as he looks Ryan over. "I think the rules were that I get to pick the song. I want to sing this.. With you, Ry."
"Bren I don't think--"
"Let me rephrase that. Ryan, you and I are going to sing this song together tomorrow night."
Ryan sighs softly but eventually let's out a soft chuckle and nods. "Fine. But only because you're so fucking cute." He laughs, leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to Brendon's lips. Brendon kisses back, hand moving to gently cup Ryan's cheek. When they pull back he smiles gently and looks back down at the lyrics.
"Does your band know about these songs? They must think you're stupid to keep them hidden from the public."
Ryan shakes his head gently, scratching at the back of his neck. "No... I mean... They don't exactly know much about anything anymore. The band split up a few months ago." Brendon's eyes widen at that. He looks up at Ryan with raised brows.
"The band what?" He asks, stunned.
"We broke up. Musical differences. It's complicated Bren." He sighs, leaning his head onto Brendon's shoulder and ignoring his shocked expression.
Brendon nods gently, but inside he's still in shock. The band he loved had broken up. The band he listened to every night for the past year had split. God, it was like my chemical romance all over again.
No. No. Nothing can ever beat the MCR split. He cried for a week. God, he was such a little bitch.
He took in a soft breath and kissed the top of Ryan's head. "I get it." He nods, smiling gently down at Ryan. He looked so fucking cute. So relaxed like that. "I mean... Being alone is better. You don't have to deal with anyone holding you back. I've been alone for a long time and I love it. It'll be a cold day in hell if anyone ever ties me down. Whether it be a partner or a band."
Brendon was a loner. Aside from Kevin, he refused to let anyone get close to him. He didn't want to be held down, but more importantly, he didn't want to get hurt. So he pushed people away. It was easier that way. Always had been. He wasn't planning on letting anyone in anytime soon.
