"What are we gonna do?"
"Why the hell did she take her anyways?"
"It doesn't matter, we have to get her back! She could be d-"
"Don't you freaking say it."
"Guys, shh, she's waking up..."
My eyes fluttered open and I saw everyone looking down at me. I was in bed, covered up with a blanket and had pillows under my head. Nico was right beside me, holding my hand. They all looked worried...
Why were they looking at me like that?
Like they were waiting for me to say something?
"Crista, how are you feeling?" Annabeth asked me, clutching my other hand.
How am I feeling?
I can't feel anything.
"Did you call him yet?" I asked.
"We called the moment we got up here."
We were inside the beach house, in one of the rooms. It didn't feel the same.
"He told us to call once you woke up."
"Get him on the phone."
Leo dialed a number into the house's phone and gave it to me. I waited for him to pick up.
"Crista, are you alright?" he asked as soon as he picked up.
"How could you be asking that right now..."
"Because I care for you as well, Crista, now tell me how you're feeling."
"I'm not fine, Marissa's missing."
"I know, Crista. I know."
"I'll find her, I promise."
"But where will you start?"
What the hell is he saying... Is he just giving up? His daughter is missing!
"I don't..." I answered.
"You don't know, Crista. We all don't know where to start."
"I'll find her."
"I know you will. Crista, I can't stop you from whatever it is you're planning to do, but please be careful."
I hung up and got up from the bed. Everyone was looking at me expectantly.
"Tell me what happened from the start," I said and they all nodded.
"We were playing another round of volleyball while you and Nico went up to bake stuff," Percy said. "Marissa was serving but then smoke suddenly rose up from the ground. All we could see was a girl with black hair grab Marissa and they suddenly disappeared, leaving a trail of purple-y smoke behind them. The smoke from earlier was just clearing up when you and Nico came down."
"Did she say anything?" I asked.
"Revenge," Annabeth answered. "That's all she said."
"Revenge?" I asked. "Revenge for what?"
"Don't tell me Marissa got sucked into some silly love triangle that made the other girl want revenge or something," Nico said.
"Not that I know of," I said, letting out a sigh. "But I highly doubt it."
"We went down to the beach while Nico was taking care of you just to check if the girl left any clues behind or something," Leo said. "We couldn't find anything."
"Shadow travel?" I asked.
"Even with the smoke, it was still pretty bright out," Jason said, shaking his head.
"What about that purple smoke?" Nico said. "Or any of the smoke?"
"Sorcery?" I asked.
"Maybe."
"So a Circe kid?" Piper asked.
"Or a wannabe witch," I answered.
"So we're dealing with magic here," Percy said. "But why the hell would she want to take Marissa? And what's all the revenge business for?"
"Did Marissa even have any enemies?" Leo asked.
"Only the people she fought over clothes in boutiques," I said.
Typical Marissa... getting into trouble and all that and disappearing without a trace. Ha...
"Crista?" Nico asked.
"What?" I said, looking up at him.
"You're crying," he said, wiping a tear that I didn't know was streaming down my cheek away.
"She's like a sister to me," I said. "She's my best friend. She was always there for me and sure, we had our ups and downs and she's stubborn like hell but I can't believe I couldn't even save her. I failed her. I can't believe I failed her."
"Oh please," Percy said, rolling his eyes. "Have you gone soft?"
"What?" I asked, raising a brow. This guy has got to be kidding.
"Look at you, all mushy and stuff when you gotta be your cold-hearted bastard self! Sheesh, go blind twice and suddenly you're a wuss."
"Watch your words, Jackson," I said, grinding my teeth. This guy has lost his mind.
"Why, am I lying? Then what's this wuss in front of me, crying her heart out because she couldn't save her friend. I guess it was all some sort of façade, huh? What happened to the oh-so strong Crista? Oh right, she went weak."
"YOU JERK!" I yelled as I walked up to him.
"CRISTA!" everyone else yelled, raising their hands up as if to stop me.
"WHAT?!" I yelled back at them. They all pointed behind me. I turned around and looked out the window to see the sea forming a huge wave over the beach. I let out a sigh and calmed myself, willing the wave to go back down safely. Everyone let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Percy, have you lost your mind?!" Annabeth yelled at Percy, giving him a thump on the head.
"No," I said, letting out another sigh. "I lost mine. Thanks, Percy."
"No problem dude," he said, giving me a fist bump.
That's just what I needed. He was right anyways, my fire died down and I became soft. Forget taking a break from the real world. It's time to kick some ass.
Whoever took Marissa..
She's dead to me.
