Music blasted in your ears through your purple and silver ear phones as you turned the page in your latest book, which was about a boy with low self-esteem and an average friendly girl falling in love. Their relationship intrigued you, and you could hardly wait to turn the pages and see what surprises were on the next ones.

"Y/N!" you younger brother, Kyle, called your name and yanked out one of your earphones, causing you to sharply turn round and nearly loose your page.

"Do you mind?" you sneered, cross at the way he had disrupted you.

"Not at all." Kyle smirked at your reaction before pointing out of your window. "Look, we're here, Y/N. Come and grab some stuff out of the boot."

Grumbling a little to yourself you stepped out of the comforting warmth of the car, straight into the chilly grasp of winter. Your teeth chattered and you tilted your head back to take in the breathtaking view of your new home.

"Impressive, isn't it?" Kyle mumbled, stumbling by you with several suitcases. "Anyway, stop gawking and grab your bags. The rest of your stuff is already set up inside; you only need to unpack your clothes."

"In a minute." you breathed, still not daring to tare your eyes away from the stunning house. It was a creamy white, green ivy climbing up the smooth-looking walls and large windows peering out into the front garden, which was currently levelled over in a fresh blinding sheet of snow. There was a black gate with beautiful patterns engraved in the metal, and you grabbed your bags and slowly pushed it open, marvelling at its light weight.

"Y/N!" your mother beamed when she saw you struggling up the garden path with your stuff. "When you get inside, your father, Kyle and I are going food shopping. Did you want to come?"

"No, thanks," you politely declined, staggering inside with your bags and dumping them on the tiled kitchen floor. Glancing round, you shook the snow off of your shoulders and head, noting the kitchen was already set up. It had a pine theme; pine table and chairs, pine cupboards. It was truly a dream.

"Alright," you mother cheerily said, handing you your own key and slipping into some snow boots before calling your father and bother. "Your room is the first one to the right. Don't make too much noise or anything; the house is semi-detached. We have neighbours, and I'm pretty sure the walls on that side of the house are practically paper thin."

Just then your brother and father came scrambling down the stairs, seemingly having a race to the door. Neither of them were doing particularly well; they both still had their shoes on which were slick with melting snow, causing them to slip and slid their way across the kitchen and hall. Usually their antics would annoy you, but you were in such a cheery and fresh mood that you simply giggled and made your way up the stairs with your stuff, throwing a quick 'bye' over your shoulder. There was a chorus of 'see you later' before the door was shut and the sound of the key being turned in the lock was just audible.

First one to the right, you thought to yourself, resting your hand on the door that lead to your room. What would it be like? Was it big? You couldn't stand the anticipation much longer so you pushed forward with your hand.

It was beautiful! The walls were a matte purple with white spots in random patterns on them, and there was a pine dresser with a medium sized mirror attached. There was also a waxed pine wardrobe with a white dresser next to it; more than plenty enough room to but your stuff. In the corner was a single bed with a white and lilac bed cover with silver butterflies. The bottom was lilac with the butterflies and the top was a pure white. You couldn't wait for your parents to get back so you could thank them.

Knock, knock.

You swore a little when a hollow knocking sound echoed throughout the house; someone was at the door. Pulling your lip in between your teeth you contemplated on whether to open it or not. When they (whoever they were) knocked again, just that little bit louder, you decided to go and see who it was.

Thumping down the stars and into the kitchen, you scooped up your keys from the counter and made your way to the door, the outline of a male figure clearly seen through the slightly blurred glass. Slotting the metal into the lock, you swiftly twisted and pulled open the door.

On the doorstep was a mardy-looking teenage boy, about your age, with slightly wavy brown hair and piercing green eyes that refused to even glance at you.

"Hi," he gruffly said, sounding rather like he was reciting from a script. "I'm Robbie Kay, your next door neighbour. Would you like some cookies?"

"Uh, sure." you shrugged, feeling sorry for the boy who had obviously been forced over by his parents to greet the next neighbours.

The sound of your voice seemed to snap him out of his trance, and his eyes shot to your face, widening when he saw your appearance.

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry." he stammered out, the batch of cookies wobbling dangerously in his clutch and white wisps of snow drifting down onto his shoulders and into his hair.

"What for?" you asked, honestly not understand Robbie's apologising. He held out the cookies to you, which you graciously accepted and smiled in thanks.

"Well, I was kinda rude just then." he sheepishly explained, twining his fingers together in what seemed to be a nervous gesture.

"It's fine." you shoo your head, sliding the cookies onto the side before facing Robbie again. "I'm Y/N. Nice to meet you, Robbie."

"Uh, n-nice to meet you too." Robbie stuttered, licking his lips before backing slightly away from the doorstep. "Hey, do you want to hang out or something tomorrow?"

You paused for a moment; was he being serious? Robbie was a good looking guy and was asking you to hang out - was this real? "Sure." you eventually said, leaning against the door frame. "See you later, Robbie."

"Bye, Y/N."
