A minute later Sirius was back in the bedroom at Remus' side, Lily with him. She pushed him out of the way so she could get better access to her friend. She ran a series of charms over him and scowled to herself. Lily was about to suggest that he get Remus some pain relief potion but stopped short, they didn't work on Werewolves, instead she told the tense man beside her to go round the other side of the bed and hold Remus' hand. Sirius did as he was told. He also started murmuring calming thoughts into the other man's ear. After a few moments Sirius and Lily could both see this was having as effect on the Werewolf lying on the bed he relaxed physically for a small while.

Until Lily started casting her healing charms on Remus' ribs. He tried to scream but all that came out was a scratchy hoarse cry and Sirius could not help the tears that stared to slip down his cheeks. He felt just like he had in his fifth year when Remus had come back from the Shrieking Shack in as bad a state as he was in now, he hadn't been with him as Padfoot then either. He brought himself back to the present, he couldn't think about he past now, Remus needed him.

Half an hour later Remus had passed out from the pain and from exhaustion and Lily was done. She and Sirius left him on the bed wrapped up in a light sheet. Sirius was about to say goodbye to Lily as she had to get back to her 'git of a husband'. But he suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace and he didn't have to say anything, Lily knew what he wanted to say but that he couldn't get the words out without breaking down in front of her. He was thanking her for saving Remus' life, as Sirius would not have been able to handle the Werewolf on his own and the stubborn man would never have never gone to St Mungo's. All she whispered in his ear as she rubbed his back was,

"He's my best friend; I would have come at any time." And it was true, he knew it. Lily had been having a quiet lie-in with James when they had received Sirius' frantic phone call and she did not hesitate to come over and help Remus. All he said back was a small

"Thank you" and she apparated back home.

Sirius spent the rest of the day lying in bed with Remus just reading to him, and he vowed to the man sleeping quietly next to him that he was never going to let him face another full moon alone ever again. Even Alastair Moody couldn't stop him.
