Separate Paths

14 3 2

I know we were never quite a thing but I felt something and you did also;
what it was I was never sure but it made the world impossible.

I hardly knew you but I felt the tug,
the look in your eye felt tender in my soul, a delicate caress,
I caught the glances and through our affairs I perceived the pull.

There was nothing there.

The nothing that we are, was what we were.
It may have never mattered in your person or maybe there was caution,
the awkward circumstance was fear,
a wall to block our civil growth;

there was never any future, there was never any us just you. And. Me.
