There was a man doing some experiments in a forest somewhere in California. His name was unspecified and what he was doing was also unknown. A month before the incident had occured this man was found dead and from the dead body the police found, it appeared as if he had starved to death, stripped down impaled with a branch from a tree. He was found near a cottage in the woods but no one was known to live there and so the police had thought that he had taken his own life. The police took the body to a lab for it to be examined this is where it all started. This is where Gayman begins.
