Could have been

The words “could have been” and “if only”

Have echoed through times with their own stories

They carry the stories of sadness, the tears and the woes

The regrets that we could have befriended the ones we declared foes

The regrets of not telling the truth when it needed to be said

The regrets of saying too much when silence was best

The regrets of not spilling your inner deep thoughts

The tears that formed never needed to be fought

But we didn’t understand then

We weren’t old enough to comprehend

That the chances we took could have changed

What was, what is and what could have been

The fact that someone wasn’t as bad as you thought

The fact you never forgave your best friend after you fought

The fact you emotionally tortured someone

The miracles the word “sorry” could have done

The things you could have known if you just had the guts

To ask someone without the “ifs” and the “buts”

You were too embarrassed even in front of your closest friends

They always had a hand to lend

The friend you should have believed in

When he told you, you were good enough

The friends you should have ignored

When they told you “you can do it better then a god”

The little things that make a difference

Could have changed your entire world

Now, think about something that you don’t see

You’re crying and weeping and your tears have made a sea

Don’t forget today is what will be

And in the future “what was”

Wasting today means another bad tomorrow

More tears, more heartache and more sorrows

More evil more badness more sins

Don’t for goodness sake live in “what could have been”

It’s hard to understand when you’ve felt the pain

To find the strength to get up again

But past is gone and there’s no hope

We’ll live and we’ll learn and we’ll cope

Somehow someway we’ll make it through this mess

It might be hard I guess

But this is a cycle and around it goes

Its life-you will suffer blows

BUT…

DON’T FOR GOODNESS SAKE LIVE IN WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN.
