Jailbird

The ties on his wrist are slowly released,

A freeman’s heart, no longer a beast.

And that beast is awakened from such a long sleep,

That his soul is a light, but it’s buried so deep.

But maybe that light can spark to a fire.

Maybe a Jailbird’s crime can slowly expire.

But can it expire, or does it just hide?

Like a night’s sky, does it slowly subside?

But is it a scar, forever there-

Even if that punishment isn't fair?

Is bad always bad?

Is good always good?

Or are people just simply misunderstood?

Is a Jailbird’s sin always worthy of shame?

Does the Jailbird always deserve the blame?

But maybe we’ll never know

What each heart holds.

Maybe we’ll never see the

Depth of silver and gold.

And maybe, just maybe there’s

Something beyond Jailbird’s fight.

And maybe just maybe one man’s wrong,

Could be another’s right.
