Chapter 1.

Chapter 1.

4 days before the shooting

“Aleeah he’s a fucking dick!” Elliot screamed.

“Ashton is not a dick! You don’t even know him.” I yelled back.

“Do you know how many girls he’s slept with!” he hissed. I bit my tongue and stomped off to my room.  Ashton and I have been dating for four months now, why does he choose to freak out about him now? Then it clicked, I stormed out of my room and into the kitchen.

“Have you been taking your medicine?” I questioned gripping the countertop. Elliot had schizophrenia, his mind told him things that weren’t true, when we first found out before he was questioning if whether or not my father was cheating on our mother. He believed the little lies in head but when he was put on medication it helped and he learned to keep the voices in control.

“Yes I have now why the fuck are you asking me that?” He harshly snapped back.

“Never mind just act like it never happened.” I said running back to my room and slamming the door. I flopped onto my bed and stared at a photo of my family. I was 12 and Elliot was 13 and a half. My mom crouched down beside me, her blonde hair cascaded off her shoulders, and bright blue eyes were made even brighter when she smiled. My dad had his arm around Elliot his light brown hair cut short unlike Elliot’s hair which was past the nape of his neck. Green eyes stared blankly at the camera, and then there was me. Short blond hair, I remember getting it cut earlier that day. Blue eyes just like my mother, two missing front teeth. This day was the last day we all spent together before we found out my mom had brain cancer.

I haven’t gone to see her in a couple days, I checked the time on my phone. 5:30, it was enough time to get to the hospital and visit and get back before 10 o’clock. I slipped on a light jacket and a pair of sneakers. I grabbed my car keys from the bedside table and walked out of my room and into the living room where my dad was having an argument over the phone with most likely a co-worker. But clearly his argument wasn’t a distraction enough.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked holding a hand to the phone trying to muffle out this conversation.

“Going to see mom for a couple of hours.” I said.

“No you’re staying home, I told you to go yesterday but you didn’t.” he spat.

“I’m 17 I can handle myself.” I growled. He waved me off and went back to his phone, I had won.
