"I wish I could take your place," she said.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because you're too young and too kind to know that much pain, and be so alone."
I looked at her, and realized she was serious. "Don't worry," I said, "I've gotten pretty good at fake smiles. And anyways I'm used to it."
She looked ready to cry, "You shouldn't have to be though."
