I woke up with a headache, also having to face an upset Emma. She crossed her arms.
"What you said last night wasn't nice, Ida. Now Katie thinks you don't love her." I sighed.
"I'm sorry, Em-"
"No, DON'T say sorry to me, tell that to Katie. She's the one upset right now." My shoulders slumped. How do you tell a child that you love them when you said the opposite, in a way? I don't know....
Katie was sitting on the edge of a branch of the tree in the backyard. I looked up. Her hair was hanging in her face, but I couldn't tell if she was crying.
"Katie? Its me, Ida." Silence.
"Look, I'm sorry about last night... I didn't mean it. I really don't know you because.. I don't . But I would like to get to know you." She looked down.
"Its okay, I didn't like you very much anyway, by how you treated my brother and sister."
I sighed, a little frustrated.
"They're my cousins, Katie-"
"You sure don't treat them like it." I climbed up to her. She winced.
"Katie, you know we're a family. We all love each other, even if-" I looked up and was too late to save Katie from a heavy branch that crushed her.
