I was getting worried, really worried. Jared hadn't come down to the cafeteria for lunch yet, and when it came to food, he usually wasn't late. What if he got lost? What if he passed out in the middle of the hall? What if he died!?!
"Calm down, Dude. He must of gotten caughten up with a teacher. He's a teacher's pet after all," Misha stated, taking a bite of his apple. I glare at him, but deep down I knew he was right. I lean back into my chair but worry still held on my shoulders. My attention was on the doors. Any second Jared would be walking through them.
But he never did. Before long, the bell was ringing, signaling lunch period was over. I knew something was wrong. I run out to the hall quickly, Misha right behind me. He makes fruitless attempt to calm me down, "Jensen, slow down. I'm sure he's al-"
"No, Misha! I can feel it. Something's not adding up," I try to explain. I come to the first classroom, no sign of Jared. I close the door, not caring if I disrupted them.
"Okay. It's obviously impossible arguing with you, so I might as well help. Where do you want me to look?" The dark haired boy asked me. I could see he was worried about Jared too, even though he wouldn't admit it. I nod my head down the freshman hall.
"Check there. I'll check down at the gym," I say. I don't wait for a response before I head down to the lower level where the gym was built. Within the first step in the room, I could already smell the sweat and heat that ruled the air. I ignore it, mind set on finding Jared.
I round the corner of the boy's locker room, and in the corner, sure enough, is Jared. I curse to myself as run over to him getting to my knees. I pull him upright in an attempt to wake him up; it works for a second before he starts to drift off again.
I didn't even have to think about it before I slapped him. It was enough to shock him into staying awake. I didn't know if he had a concussion are not, and I wasn't gonna take that chance. His eyes are heavy lidded, but he manages to mumble out my name.
"Shhh... It's okay Jare. You're going to be okay. Just stay awake for me, Kay?" I ask. I don't think I've ever talked this softly before. I didn't know what was happening. All I could feel was my heart swell up at the thought of finding him and having him in my arms.
I couldn't believe this was happening, again. How many times did my baby have to suffer? I shake it off as I see the long-haired boy's eyes drift close. I shake him awake, deciding that I couldn't wait any longer. In one, not so swiftly, movement, I pull Jared over my shoulder.
He was sorta heavy considering he was 6 foot and still growing. A frown plays against my lips as I realize the boy in my arms was shaking. His grip on me was nothing more than a violent grip on my shirt.
I make my way through the gym and into the halls. It reminded me of months ago when I had carried a bloodied Jared from the barn to the house. The thought made me shiver, so I push it away. I couldn't think like that. I couldn't think of anything when I was so afraid if he would die in my arms that night, or what would have happened if I found him any later.
I trudge my way through the empty halls. Everyone was in class by now, and I hoped a teacher or student wouldn't see us through the small window of the class doors. I make it down the senior hall when I suddenly see Misha looking in a supply closet. He turns around, catching my eye, then noticing Jared, practically limp in my arms.
Misha's eyes go wide as he runs down the hall to us. He was overwhelmed, obviously, by the way he stumbled over his words and a slight tremble in his voice, "W-what happened to him?"
