Amanda, she's the only "cancer friend" I have, although she's my nurse we have a special bond...my friends from school stopped visiting me once they found out I had cancer. It's like they thought it was contagious...
But Amanda had been there for me since say one of my diagnosis, she has held me when I've cried, she helped me understand what the treatment was doing, she's been there when my parents couldn't be, she's my best friend...
Sure I've met my share of other patients my age on the ward during the various events, but nobody has stayed long enough to build that real relationship. So I resort to making friends with the nurses, after all they do most of the work I mean its better to be friends with someone then to be in that awkward state.
