Just A Favor

Holy Rome looked around in Heaven. He'd been there for several years now, with the humans and other countries being his only companions. Every moment he was up there, his thoughts would not stop about his true love back at Earth. Italy... Holy Rome's heart ached as he thought about her. How she's hopelessly waiting for him to return home from the wars... Poor Italy...Her grandpa Rome was in Heaven with him and he heard him talking to Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt about asking God if he could visit Italy. Holy Rome watched them as they talked together. Maybe I should do that...I want to see Italy at least one more time...tell her my goodbyes...
"Ah, yes, another thing about Italy..." Holy Rome snapped out of his trance and listened carefully to what Rome was saying. "Italy's ally is strange. Looks like Germania without the long hair. I'm pretty sure he's a fan of me,too."
Holy Rome frowned. He...Ah! Maybe he's just an ally, right? Right?! Nothing more, right? Holy Rome walked back to his house and looked up at the only painting he had. The painting he made of little Italy. The push broom she gave him was standing underneath it, looking as if it was brand new. He picked it up and stared at it, remembering the last words they said to each other. The kiss.
"I've always liked you since the 10th century, you know."
"R-Really?"
"When the war is over, I'll definitely come to see you..."
"O-okay. I'll be waiting. I'll be waiting for you. I'll make lots of sweets for you. Oh, and, don't get injured or sick. We'll see each other for sure, okay? We will, okay? For sure, okay?"
"No matter how many years pass, I like you the most in the world!"
Holy Rome sighed. "Poor Italy...I will see her. I just hope God lets me go down to Earth like he let Rome..."
Holy Rome asked God if he could grant him a favor and send him down to Earth. Thankfully, He agreed and let him go down.
"Germany! Germany!" Italy ran over to his friend, Germany, waving his arms at him. Japan was running behind him, holding something in a box in his hands. Germany turned to them, surprised.
"Ah, what is it, Italy?" Italy smiled. "Japan and I decided to make something for your birthday! It's today, right? October 3rd?" Germany looked at Italy, dazed.
"You actually remembered this time?" Italy nodded. Japan opened the box to reveal a cake with three figures on it to represent candles. It was of the three Axis Powers: Italy, Germany, and Japan.
Germany took the cake and smiled. "Kuchen...my favorite." He looked up at his friends. "You really didn't have to! I mean, I love it, but still! I don't know what to say for once!" He looked down at the cake and smiled. "Dankeschön."
Italy smiled. "Prego! We'll do anything for you, Germany. You're our best friend! Right, Japan?" Japan nodded. "Hai."
Holy Rome watched from the corner in surprise as he watched what was happening. That was Italy? He was Italy? No way! This must be Italy's brother! Yes! Romano! He began to loose faith in this theory as he collected the pieces of the puzzle and realized that this wasn't Romano...
"Italy's ally is strange. Looks like Germania without the long hair." Holy Rome had seen Germania a few times in Heaven and it was true that this man named Germany looked exactly like him. Holy Rome wanted to faint. Tears formed in his eyes as realization hit him. For all these years... Holy Rome ran as fast as his tiny legs could go, running far away from the three. Italy looked away from Germany and noticed his black cape disappearing into the shadows. The cape immediately let loose a river of memories. "Holy..." He began to mumble.
"What was that, Italy-kun?" Japan asked, looking up from Germany. Immediately, Italy broke out into a run, coming after the mysterious figure he saw leave.
"AH? ITALY? WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" Germany yelled behind him, running after him. Japan, having no other choice, ran after him as well.
Holy Rome glanced behind him and, to his surprise, saw Italy running after him, with a serious expression on his adorable face. His hat flew off of his head, and since he had no time, couldn't go back to get it. The hat hit Italy in the face, however, he caught it with a stern grip and continued to run after the child. One glance at the hat confirmed everything. "HOLY ROOME! HOLY ROME! COME BACK! HOLY ROOME!" Holy Rome stopped when he heard Italy's cries. The cries he heard before he left echoed in his mind and seemed to of merged in with the Italy he was seeing now.
"Wait! Wait! Oh no! What should I do? Holy Rome!" He heard Italy stopping behind him, along with his other allies. "Holy Rome..." You could clearly hear the sadness in his voice as Italy spoke. Holy Rome sighed and turned around to see Italy, his love, clearly.
There was tears in Italy's eyes as the two stared at each other. Holy Rome could feel the tears in his eyes form as well. After so long, they finally saw each other. However, this moment wouldn't last long. Holy Rome didn't have long.
"Hello, Italy..." Holy Rome said. "It's been a while." He looked up at Italy, who was so tall compared to him. He's grown...I'm so small...I wonder how many years have passed?
"Holy Rome..." Italy picked him up and began to squeeze the life out of him. "Is it really you? Is it really you? Where have you been? Holy Rome? Holy Rome?!"
Japan and Germany stared in shock at the two. What was going on?
"Italy!" Holy Rome smiled and hugged him back. They cried out each other's name over and over again until they finally stopped. Italy put the small country down.
"Sorry for running away..." Holy Rome said, looking away, blushing. "I..I was just trying to process what I was seeing in my mind..." He began to blush more and trembled as he spoke the next part. "I...didn't...realize...that you were a...boy." Italy placed Holy Rome's hat on his head.
"Really? I thought it was obvious!"
"HOW IS WEARING DRESSES, ACTING LIKE A GIRL, AND SOUNDING LIKE A GIRL OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE A BOY?" Holy Rome exclaimed. Italy shrugged. Holy Rome sighed. "I promised that I'd see you though, right? Remember that day?" Italy paused for a moment before nodding.
"I remember...B-Big Brother France told me that you wouldn't come back..." Tears formed in Italy's eyes again as he kneeled down by him. "I told him that you would, but he kept saying it would be impossible. But you kept that promise!" Holy Rome nodded.
"I also kept another promise that day, right?" Italy looked at him, confused. "I told you that no matter how many years passed, I'd still love you the most." His face was extremely close to Italy's now. "And even though I now know you're a boy, I'll still keep that promise. I love you the most in this world." He kissed Italy, with Germany and Japan flipping out in the background. They broke away and the two smiled. Holy Rome adjusted his hat and looked Italy straight in the eye. "I have to go now, Italy. I promise that I'll return one day. I promise." Italy nodded.
"I'll be waiting..." Holy Rome looked back at Japan and Germany, who was now just staring at the two. "You seem to have great friends. That's good. They'll help you whenever you need it." Holy Rome looked back at Italy. "I love you, Italy. Never forget me, okay?" Italy nodded.
"I'll never forget you, Holy Rome..." He paused for a moment before continuing. "Ah...Tell Grandpa Rome I said hi, alright?" Holy Rome laughed. "Of course!" He began to walk away from the trio, but not before looking back and waving. He began to disappear into thin air, leaving no trace of him ever being there. Italy was silent for a moment before getting up and looking back at Germany and Japan, with the biggest smile on his face. "And that was Holy Rome! We've known each other since we were kids in the 10th century."
Holy Rome walked into his house and looked back at the push broom Italy gave him so long ago. He smiled, glad that he asked a God for that favor. It was the best thing he's could ever of done.
