the stargirl awoke with a start
her heart pulsing like a neutron star.
she was sure that she heard
a thump
against the glass of her window.

gazing out the window,
she gaped at the sights before her,
the sky paling at a lackadaisical pace,
the stars shining beacons of light.
these were things she'd seen oh so many times,
yet she failed to grow disinterested.

it was quite marvellous.

a whistle sounded from somewhere below her,
and her magnificent liquid eyes
glanced at the lone figure
bathed in the single light
of her porch.

he looked jittery and hopeful.

she turned and took the stairs.
