Lessien felt dread take over her.

Always, she had been fighting for her own life. Now, she had hundreds of women and children depending on her.

"Eowyn," she repeated more harshly, tapping the girl on the shoulder.

The small pack was far off, but still it did not give them much time to plan.

When Eowyn turned to her, Lessien gestured to the small specs in the distance, and her companion's jaw dropped slightly.

Lessien gulped, her breath heavy. "Do you have any weapons?"

There were ten of the Orcs on their Wargs now. Legolas had left his spare bow and three single arrows with her, but Lessien was no archer. There was absolutely no way to avoid close-up battle.

"No," Eowyn replied tensely, for Théoden had taken her sword as extra.

"Tell them to speed up," she whispered. Her eyes never left the specs in the distance that slowly began to take shape. "Tell them we have to scout out things, we will only be a bit of a way off."

Eowyn proclaimed what Lessien had told her to to the crowd. Some of the people sped up, but not noticeably, because none of them had any idea.

That was good right now. That was great.

"Eowyn, we're going to have to trade off weapons. Call out when you need something, I hope you can throw daggers."

The two women eased their horses on towards the attacking group. Lessien had a long dagger she probably could manage with better than her friend so she gave Eowyn her broadsword.

From long distance, Lessien managed to take down three Wargs with the bow and arrows she had. Their owners toppled to the ground, some getting crushed by the creatures' feet. Seven Wargs and eight Orcs.

They could take them.

Barely.

The clash was terrifying for even Lessien with the stakes so high. They had to win or all of Edoras's population would perish before they had even managed to make it to the fortress.

Lessien encountered her first enemy, who brought his Warg dangerously close to her own horse. They met, metal on metal, their swords meeting above their heads, arms up high.

Before the Orc could pull back to attack again, Lessien took advantage of his exposed torso and stabbed it square in the gut with one of her little knives, black blood warming her hand.

The creature let out a squeal before it died, its Warg continued running on, but soon it would turn back for retaliation.

"Dagger!" Eowyn exclaimed from behind her and Lessien tossed her dagger Eowyn's way, just in time to catch her sword that was traded for.

A masterful exchange and quite clean too.

Lessien began to charge another pair of the gruesome enemies, no holding back this time. She decapitated the oncoming Orc and with her spare leg pushed its mutilated body from off the Warg, taking the opportunity to plunge her sword with great force in between its shoulder blades swiftly. Retrieving the weapon took the force of dislodging an ax from a trunk.

The Warg came to a crashing stop a few yards away.

The other Warg who had ran off returned, charging at full speed. It was an easy take out, really, just a stab between the eyes with an dagger held at a precise angle, though the momentum of the animal almost took Lessien off of her horse.

By then, Eowyn was calling for the sword and the exchange took place again.

There was still five pairs left. One Orc was doing the best damage it could on foot.
