One night, we talked about love.

Puffs of smoke escaped from the red lips I'd memorized, and you asked me, "Have you ever been in love?"

I shook my head no, and you looked at me like I was crazy, your hair dancing in the wind and your cheeks flushed from the cold. "You're kidding."

"No." 

And then you smiled. You smiled, and it was like everything was right in the universe. "I haven't, either."

And then I smiled back and said,

"I think I'm starting to fall in love with you."

But only in my head, so you didn't hear.
