Mr. Janks brought out the last group of people and complemented us on our very technical group. I’m not sure if he was being funny or just not using the word correctly. I wasn’t paying much attention, I was trying to figure out what everything ment.
As the group walked it’s way up another hill, my mind was on a large loop. Why was Hunter so confused as to why they sent Grand and Alan to test me? Why did I have that test in the first place? What did Cassidy mean by me being dangerous? What is so bad about this “cursed” spot I’m in? Yes a girl went missing and then one died, but is there more? And what about the bullet? Zoe said there was something about it but she was intterupted! And why is Mr. Graceson here? Better yet, why do I have so many questions?
“Good evening, Mr. Janks!” The computer teached grinned, moving her hands about theatrically. “I have the red first years for you, if you have all the blue’s for me!”
“Ah, Here they are.” He smiled back at her, “I think you’ll enjoy this group too, very tech savvy. I am thinking many are good with computers as well.”
“Very good!” She looked to all of us, “Now blue first years! Follow me to the computer rooms for your next exam.”
Another question came to mind, Dean James never told me her name. Mr. Janks never mentioned it either. Again, I hate not knowing things, ecspeacially when those things are rubbed in your face. Taunting you, making faces and chanting like child hood bullies.
“Alright kids!” She turned, “This is the computer building! And I am head of the Computer department! Any Questions before I bring you to your exam?”
I raised my hand, standing on my tip toes so she could see. She smiled and nodded to me.
“Um, What is your name?” I asked.
“Ah, Child, I am nameless!” She shook her head, “But, for lack of other things to call me, the kids have claimed me Rummy! You are welcome to call me that as well.”
“Thank you..Rummy,” I nodded at her. She is nameless? More like hiding something.
“Okay, I shall lead you into the room, please form a single line so I may collect your papers and assign you a computer!” She smiled and turned to the door. As she did so, the first years scrambled to form the line, I, still slightly out of it, ended up at the way back.
We started moving through a small sitting room with a desk, making it look like a waiting room. Then, we entered through a door and into a narrow hallway with purple walls and shag carpet. Stoping there, I saw one door open and inched forward.
The boy in front of me was with Rummy shortly. He was placed at Station 24. I clutched my paper and stepped forward to take his place in front of the teacher.
“Here is my paper Rummy,” I smiled and held out the sheet.
“Oh, My,” She muttered, sliding her glasses a little lower on her nose, “It seems I have no more available computers! Here, come with me, I have another room with only one computer. You can use that for the exam.”
“Okay,” I nodded and followed her a little ways back to another door. She opened to reveil a small closet made completely out of computers and a little chair. Monitors and special keyboards formed around the chair. I noticed that on the door there was even monitors, wires, keyboards, and a table.
“This is just like the other computers, and You have two hours to track this man down” She smiled and handed me a thin manilla folder, “then figure out what he is up to and stop it.”
“Okay,” I said nervously.
“Sit down,” She smiled as she pushed me into the chair. She slammed the door and her muffled voice came through, “You may begin!”
