"So...where exactly are we, Doctor?"

The TARDIS had just landed, and the Doctor had refused to tell Charley where they were going. It's a surprise, he had said. Charley would have been excited, except for one little problem: the Doctor was notoriously bad at flying his TARDIS, and she wouldn't have been surprised to walk outside into unbreathable air on some far-off planet.

But the Doctor just shook his head and grinned, his brown curls bouncing slightly. Charley loved his long, curly hair, but he said he was going to cut it. "You'll have to go out and look for yourself!" He said excitedly.

"Well, it's not...you know...dangerous out there, is it?" Charley asked cautiously. It was always necessary to ask that question.

The Doctor shook his head. "Charley, do you think I would send you out there first if I wasn't 100% certain that it was safe?"

Charley very nearly replied, "Yes, because you've done it before," but decided to keep quiet. So she cautiously opened the creaky door and peeked outside.

Rocks.

Charley turned around to face the Doctor. "There's a bunch of rocks out there, Doctor."

The Doctor smiled widely. "Yes, I know! Isn't it so exciting?"

"What's so special about the rocks, Doctor?"

"Charley, this is the largest black opal mine in the universe! Not just anyone can come here! And here we are, parked right inside it!"

Holding back a grin, Charley went outside, hand-in-hand with the Doctor. And that was when the trouble began.
