"GIRL GET BACK HERE!" Bam shouted down the path to his girlfriend.
Ignoring him, Scarlett stomped into the trapper shack, ripping her boots off. She had enough today of the fighting and bickering with the brothers. They never listened to her! It was so frustrating! And the worst part was that her boyfriend was siding with his brothers rather than her.
"Scarlett!" Bam yelled, entering the cabin.
She rolled her eyes and turned around to face him. Her hands went to her hips.
"What?" she asked.
"What was that all about?" he wondered. "Why'd you run off like that?"
"Because you were being an asshole!" she exclaimed.
He froze and she knew she had angered him. The vein in his neck and forehead were beginning to make their appearance.
"An asshole?" he questioned. "Really?"
"Yes! You always side with your brothers and never give me a chance!" she shouted at him.
"That's because the way you were trying to get us to do it wasn't going to work!"
"Well how was I supposed to know that? I'm new out here in the bush!"
"And it's not my fault you don't know how to do anything out here. It's pretty clear that you can't make it out here in the bush!"
Her heart sank and all anger went out of her body. It was replaced by hurt. How could he say that about her? He knew how insecure she was about that. All her friends had told her she was crazy when she started dating him, that there was no way she could make it living with him in the bush. She had been here a few previous times, but this weekend was the first one where all the men were allowing her to help them with a project. She wanted to prove them all wrong, prove to them that indeed she could do it. But clearly even her own boyfriend didn't think she could.
Bam instantly froze when those words flew out of his mouth. He cringed at the look of hurt on Scarlett's face. He hadn't meant to hurt her. He didn't mean anything he had just said. His anger had gotten the best of him and he had said something completely out of line. The truth was, she was making it perfectly fine out here. She was fitting in with the family and doing chores like they were nothing.
But his pride had gotten the best of him. He wanted to do everything his way, but she wasn't taking it. They were too much alike sometimes and they just clashed. But they had gotten through it before. It had never turned into a fight. In fact, this was their first real fight. And it was a bad one.
"Baby, I..."
"Get out," she breathed.
He went to take a step towards her, but she held up her hand, signaling him to not step any closer.
"Get OUT!" she yelled, pushing him towards the door.
She slammed the cabin door shut in his face, leaving him standing there in shock. He sighed and shook his head. Why did he have to be so stubborn all the time?
He knocked on the door. "Honey, please, let me in," he tried to coax her.
There was no sign of her ever coming closer to the door. He slid down the door and sat outside, occasionally talking to her (without response), trying to get her to open it. But of course she was being stubborn as well.
After a complete half an hour, he was frustrated. He stood up and banged on the door, having enough of it. He wanted to make things right.
"Dammit, Scar, open the door!" he shouted, pounding on the door even more.
"WOULD YOU QUIT IT?" Scarlett screamed, opening the door.
He stepped into the trapper shack and shut the door behind him, locking it. She took a step back, scared at the anger on his face, yet slightly turned on. After all, this attitude of his was what attracted her at first.
"You locked me out of my own home," he told her.
"Well you deserved it," she stated, matter of factly.
"Dammit woman! Why do you have to be so stubborn?" he asked.
"Because you insulted me! You know how worried I am about not fitting in here!"
He sighed and let his anger escape his body. He looked up into her eyes and stepped closer, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into his chest.
"Girl, you're fitting in fine. Everybody loves you and you're doing a great job," he whispered in her ear.
"Then why did you say what you did?" she mumbled.
As much as he didn't want to admit it, he finally did by saying, "Because I'm stubborn too. I wanted to be the right one and I let my anger get the best of me."
"Yeah, well you're not always right."
"I know that and I'm sorry."
"How sorry are you?"
"Girl, you best not push me at the moment," he threatened jokingly.
"Oh yeah? What're you going to do about it?" she taunted.
He growled and tackled her to the bed. She laughed as they tumbled around in the sheets, kissing and tickling one another. They finally calmed down and he hovered above her, brushing a piece of hair away from her face.
"I love you," she told him.
"More, you gorgeous stubborn woman," he said, diving his lips down to hers.
