Term 1 Assignments: The following assignments are marked based on the asterisk information, as well as any writing obviously will also be assessed based on correct spelling, grammar, style (a sophisticated style, use of literary devices etc).

1. Bio /10 *engaging, complete DUE THURSDAY, FEB 3

*This first week you need to brainstorm ideas for your book and research good covers. Plan out your general concept/characters so it informs your cover. Read through other books on wattpad, start following and reading others, gain a following. 

2. Draft of what your book is about, characters, plot, etc. - emailed to lboddez@sd43.bc.ca by the end of class on Monday, Feb 7thth.  /10 marks  *should be roughly 1/2 - 1 page of info (point form)

2. Cover /20 *engaging title, image, professional DUE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH

3. Synopsis /10 *engaging summary of your book, captures essence of work, concise DUE MONDAY, FEB 14

4. Chapter 1 /50 *introduces character, sets up story, should have identifiable conflict, 750 word minimum  DUE Tuesday, FEB 22 (Informal Report Card deadline is Feb 24th)

5. Chapter 2 /50 *continuation of story DUE MONDAY, FEB 28, 

6. Chapter 3 /50 *continuation of story DUE MONDAY, MARCH 7

7. # of views /30 *the higher the views, the higher the mark.

Week 1: 10=100%, Week 2: 20=100%, Week 3: 40=100%.

8. Comments on other people's work in class: (2 marks for each comment per book) /10

3. Chapter 6 /50 *continuation of story  DUE MONDAY, APRIL 25

4. Publisher presentation: research a Canadian publisher, general information about that publisher, learning the number and types of books they publish, whether they are currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts, what their submission requirements are. Then, based on that information create an information page on that publisher answering these questions, and any other interesting information you find (popular authors/books published by that publisher). GROUP 1: DUE Tuesday, April 28  ; GROUP 2: DUE Wednesday, April 29  

*IMPORTANT: Publishers are first come-first served. So, comment below what publisher you are claiming - and then it's yours. We can't have any repeats, so only one publisher per person. Don't worry, there are more than enough Canadian publishers that you can all find one. A good place to start looking is publishers.ca Search their "members" begin at "a" and go through the alphabet until you find one that interests you.
