"Dipper!" Ford suddenly wailed from downstairs, causing the kid to fall off and out of his bed. "Get down here, I have to tell you something!"
Mabel yawned and watched as Dipper scrambled to his feet, dashing out of the room. He fell down the stairs and darted into the gift shop. Hearing his great uncle call his name one last time, Dipper realized the old guy was in the basement.
It had recently been reconstructed, and if it weren't for Ford and his occasional visits, the lowest level would've become a workout room for Soos. Once Dipper entered the place, the first thing he noticed was that it felt bare; like a tree with no leaves. There were far less gadgets mounted on walls and gismos laying around, making the area look empty. The portal was also absent, oddly making Dipper feel warm inside. Though it was obvious Ford had been keeping track of his adventures with Stanley, researching various anomalies from around the world.
"Yeah, I still haven't gotten used to this place," Dipper subtly announced as he walked towards his uncle.
"Well, you've only been down here a couple times since the old thing's renewal," Ford replied, facing away from Dipper. "So that doesn't surprise me." He was writing something down, presumably about the skeleton Dipper and Mabel had recently found out in the forest.
"And looks like you're still researching anomalies, huh?"
"It's in my blood, kid," Ford grinned. The man then turned around, his eyes bright yellow and the pupils transformed so that they appeared as slits.
Dipper gasped and fell backward, finding himself in his bed again. Sitting up, his eyes darted around the room. To his left was Mabel, sound asleep. His chest heaved, his mind raced. "Just a nightmare, Dipper," he sighed, laying back down on his bed. "Just a nightmare."
Before he even shut his eyes again, the room briefly became orange. He got up, running to the window. A large creature flew past the glass, but Dipper had no chance of making it out. Smoke was seen off in the distance and fire was noticed in the Mystery Shack's parking lot.
"Oh boy."

The twins woke up and charged downstairs, eager to deal with this random monster attack. "What's a stinkin' dragon doing out there?!" Dipper yelled, approaching Stanford. "I mean, I love dragons just as much as the next teenage guy, but this is ultimately pretty terrifying," Dipper added. His great uncle just so happened to be putting on his boots by the door.
"Kids, no time to explain," Ford grunted. "There's a dragon out there and we need to stop it."
"What's a dragon even doing here?" Mabel asked. "Well, that's kinda a dumb question considering that this is Gravity Falls."
"It's an Ice Drake from the Arctic," Ford snarled, putting on his coat. Stan soon joined him.
"Must've followed your uncle and I back here," Stanley proposed.
"If it's an ice dragon, how come it's breathing fire?" Dipper snapped. "Wouldn't an ice dragon typically breathe snow or something like that?"
"Every dragon is capable of producing fire, kid," Ford said quickly, grabbing a gun of some sort. "This one in particular, can breathe both fire and ice." He then handed that gun to Dipper. The boy looked down at it, both eager to fight and unsure of how. Stan suddenly equipped his crossbow, causing Mabel to unexpectedly pull out her grappling hook. That's when Wendy burst in through the door, axe in hand.
