Lightening struck the main mast!

It was charred instantaneously and turned to ash. The sails burst into flame. Gusts of wind whipped at the burning Red Ruby, feeding the fire. The bright scarlet flames on the red wood ship shone like a sun in the darkness.

The heavenly showers struggled to quench the fiery mass. Tongues of flame licked the deck of the ship and spread like wildfire. The waves joined in the effort to drench the flaring furnace.

Steam rose off the vessel and rolled out like a fog, which covered the Red Ruby like a veil.

A last deafening roar of thunder sounded the bugle of victory over the Red Ruby as the dark blue quicksand sucked it down into the abyss. The captain went down with his ship like a tragic cliche.
