We went to Dairy Queen to buy a cake.
He was amazed by looking at the display of different kinds of cake.
Vanilla, coffee, chocolate, fruit, oreo.. OREO.
"Hey Zion, how about the oreo ice cream cake?" I pointed at the beautiful black and white cake.
"I have never tried 'oreo'." He responded.
"You must! It's very delicious!" I say in delight, already tasting the cake melting in my mouth.
I took the cake out of the freezer and we lined up to wait for our turn.
"Who's this guy?" I hear a familiar deeo voice behind me.
I turn around to see Matthew with a vanilla cake in his hand.
Why does he have to be here out of all places?
"My friend." I expected this to be the end of our conversation and to quickly pay the cashier and leave.
Zion suddenly turns his whole body towards Matthew.
"Hello, my name is Zion." He holds out his hand.
Oh god. Zion, I know I showed you how to introduce yourself to someone but out of all people, why Matthew??
Matthew looks up and down at Zion. He smacks Zion's hands away.
"What the fuck, man. I don't do that kind of shit." Matthew snorts.
Zion's eyes widened. He didn't know what to do in this situation. He slowly turns around.
"Can you leave him alone?" I glare at Matthew.
He raised his empty hand in surrender. "Oh, I'm so scared."
That is when I wanted to smack that cake out of his hand... But then, I would have to pay for his cake.. I turn away. Fucking asshole.
Matthew's voice comes out of his mouth again.
"If you were wondering why I'm holding this cake right now, I'm buying it for Joanne's early birthday party tonight. Oh wait, you wouldn't know because you're not invited." He chuckled to himself.
I close my eyes and hold my anger back.
Zion opens his mouth. "Well-"
"Next!" The person at the cash register calls out.
I put down the cake on the table and paid her the money.
"'Well' what, boy? Are you trying to start a fight with me?" I hear Matthew harshly say to Zion.
I was about to turn around to give Matthew a piece of my mind.
"What would you want the cake to say?" The cashier asked me.
"No, it's just that Esme and I are going to celebrate her birthday together."
Too many things happening at once. Let's just hurry up with the cake.
"Happy birthday, Esme. E-S-M-E." I said clearly.
Matthew chuckles, "Oh right! It's your birthday today, Esme. Happy birthday." He says with no sincerity.
They finish writing on the ice cream cake and I quickly pick it up.
"Let's go, Zion." I growl.
I rush out of the fast food restaurant as Zion followed behind me.
After we walked two blocks, I spun around to see Zion's surprised expression spread on his face.
"Zion, I do NOT need you to back me up."
