Review : Ms. Whittington has a way of describing a place so eloquently and beautifully that it is not really a stretch for me to actually believe that I am there with the characters.
Once the author does the world building and gets you acquainted with the characters, the pace of the story picks up quickly and boy, oh boy, once it does you had better hold on tight!! You are in for the ride of your life!! A ride you never want to end!
The only thing I can say about Cicada is WOW!! I mean, really WOW!! Not only is Cicada different from anything out there, it's very articulate and well written. I gobbled it up in one setting and enjoyed it more than a chocolate bar!! I found myself immediately transported to Ms. Whittington's world. Her characters and world came to life and literally lept off the page. I found myself intrigued by the mystery and I absolutely NEEDED to know more.
It is by no means a comparison, but the story reminded me of Rosewell (TV Show) and The 5th Wave (Movie) because they are coming of age stories about groups of teens fighting alien invasions, overcoming adversity and strengthening friendships.
