Title: The Light Behind Your Eyes

"He was in a lot of shock from his injuries and has gone into an unconscious state."

Everyone stays silent. Jordan finally breaks it, understanding what the doctor means. "He's in a coma?"
The doctor nods sadly, "You can of course visit him during hours but we are currently unsure on when he'll wake up."
"So... Is he alright?" James asks slowly.
"He's in a coma, James!" I exclaim, "Of course he's not alright!"

I shake my head at him, seeing he looks confused, and storm it of the hospital. I notice the way everybody, including my friends, staring after me. Whatever. I get to be upset over one of my best friends being hurt. In the hospital in a coma kind of hurt. Stupid people can't wait for a fucking green light and have to run a red. They didn't think twice that maybe a certain Irishman was driving down the road too, whilst he has a green light! Fucking idiots breaking the fucking law.

.....•.....

"Why isn't he getting better?" I whisper, talking to myself and not expecting an answer.
"I don't know, Aleks," Dan says calmly, trying to keep me sane. "But he will. I promise you he will."

.....•.....

"You lied to me! You said he would get better but now you're telling me that they're going to pull the plug?" I yell, not caring about the surprised or angry looks I get from the others around me. I don't care what they think of my outburst. "What the fuck, Dan!"

"It's been four years already," Stefani says, trying to keep her eyes from spilling tears.
"He's not getting any better, Aleks," Joe adds softly.
"But he's still alive!" I insist, "He's still fighting! If he wanted to die he would've let go already."
"I don't know if it works like that," Dexter mumbles.
"This isn't fair! Why Seamus? Why him out of all people? He shouldn't have to deal with this in the first place," I mutter, trying to keep my voice even.

"Aleks," Jordan places his hands gently on my shoulders, "I don't like it either. None of us want to do it. But he's not getting better and he's in pain."
"You're not the only one being hurt here, Aleks," Dex huffs.
"Seamus was our friend too," Spencer sighs.
"But you don't know him like I do," I snap, "I've been his friend for years."
"I knew him longer than you did, Aleksandr!" James retorts.

"Stop referring to him as if he's already dead!" I shout. "He's not and he's not going to! You promised..." I feel the tears pricking at my eyes as I trail off, hearing my voice crack from the pain of losing my friend.
"Unfortunately I'm going to have to break my promise," Dan wraps his arms around my shaking frame, trying to comfort me. "I honestly thought I'd never have to."
"I believed you..." I whisper.
"I believed me too," he replies.

.....•.....

"I'm so sorry," the doctor hangs his head, "We're going to be doing it at seven thirty tomorrow evening. If you would like to say your goodbyes you should do it before then."
"When's the earliest we're allowed in there?" I ask.
"Eight in the morning."
"I'll be there," I mutter, hoping none of the guys hear me.

"Would one of you like to do it for him?"

Nobody says anything. We all just stare at the doctor like he's crazy. "I'll give you some time to think it over," he says, giving a small, sad smile before he walks away from us.
