I pull away and look at his face. He looks so peaceful. His head is covered on the top... I guess to protect the fracture. "You will be ok." I say as a tear slips down my cheek. I sit by his bed holding his hand until Gibbs comes back in.
"You ready?" Gibbs asks. I nod my head and he wheels me away down the halls. We get back to my room to see everyone still there.
"How is he?" Ducky asks.
"He's... He's fine, Ducky." I say quietly.
"Now the question is... Are you fine?" Tony asks.
"No." I say as I break down crying.
"Everything is gonna be ok." Gibbs says as he crouches down next to me.
"I guess... Now is as good a time as any to tell you... Jimmy proposed to me last night..."
"Ashton... I'm so sorry. No wonder you're taking this so hard." Vance says.
"Don't say you're sorry. There's nothing you could've done."
"I know... But still."
"He proposed? That is so romantic." Ziva says as she shoots Tony a look.
"What?" Tony asks.
"Nothing."
"I know... But now he's almost dead. I don't know what to think." I say.
"Think positive!" Abby smiles.
"Easy for you to say! You're Abby. And your fiancé isn't in a comma with a fractured skull and crushed legs."
"No. But it will only help."
"Yeah. Ok."
"I think we should leave her alone for a little while... Sound good, Ash?" McGee asks.
"Yeah..."
"Call me if you want us to come back." Gibbs says.
"Ok." I sit in the wheelchair and watch as everyone leaves. My face is stiff from all my dried tears, yet I still cry more. The happiest week of my life quickly avalanched into the worst.
"Ms. Hughe?" a nurse asks as she opens the door.
"Yes?"
"There are people here to see you." I move my wheelchair over to the door and am shocked by who I see smiling at me.
