Sage's POV

My alarm blared as I groaned. The bruises the guy gave me last night were still bugging me, even after a full night sleep. The sun was shining through the window, and I had a feeling today was going to be a good day.

I saw a movement in the bushes when I was walking to school. I whipped my head towards them and squinted. I couldn't see a thing. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, telling me that someone was watching.

I hiked the backpack up onto my shoulders and kept a wary eye out for anyone suspicious.

Suddenly, a black shadow rushed towards me at lightning speed. I quickly whipped my arms up to block any blows he or she would deliver. I braced for the impact of a punch, but it never came. I slowly opened my eyes to see Xander punching and beating the mystery person.

I walked closer to get a better look at the attacker. He had blonde hair, but before I could get a good look at his eyes, Xander had knocked him out cold.

I glared at Xander. "I can take care of myself, thank you very much. I do not need a babysitter," I huffed out.

Xander sighed, "I'm trying to help you, can't you be just a little fucking grateful?"

"Not when all the other times you talk to me are when you are being an asshole!"

"You're so difficult, a simple thank you would have been appreciated!"

"Well, too bad because an asshole does not receive thank you-s."

"A bitch doesn't deserve to be saved, but I did-"

"I told you I had it under control! I don't need your help! I don't need your pity!" I told Xander. Without waiting for him to say something back, I pivoted on me heel and walked away.

Xander's POV

I sighed as Sage left. I looked down at Zeke. I put his arm over my shoulder and supported him as we (I) walked back to my house. There was no point in going to school, it was obvious that Sage wasn't going to reveal anything anytime soon. I had to speed the process up somehow.

I looked down at her file sitting on my desk. I opened it once more just to scan through the same information for the umpteenth time.

There had to be a way to get her to trust me faster. If worst comes to worst, I could always beat it out of her. I shook my head, boss wants her in top fighting condition the moment she joins. He said her life was forfeit if she didn't join.

The wipe out of her gang is planned for 10 after tomorrow. In order to do so, boss ordered me, Zeke, and Jace to retrieve information from her.

Zeke groans as he brings a hand up to his head.

"Did you really have to make it so convincing? My head and stomach hurts, give a little sympathy," Zeke whined the moment he came to.

I sighed and rolled my eyes, "fine, Jace will be beaten up next time, happy?"

"I'm good with that!"
