Chapter One

KATE

Behind the mask I put on for my followers I feel like my life isn't worth anything. I never asked to be a role model to over 3 million people on Vine, and I never asked for all the hate that came attached. I started making Vine videos under the username fangirl94stuff (my Tumblr) because I was the biggest fangirl around from TV to music and even books. The 94 came from the year I was born making me 22, and the stuff came because 'fangirl94' was already taken.

Lately, I hadn't been feeling my best and my videos had been lacking in creativity. A couple other Viners had made headlines for making controversial videos and the rest of us got the backlash. Sure I spoke my mind but I knew when enough was enough. I had quite a large social media following via Vine, Snapchat, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and YouTube and on every platform I received hate. It was made worse when I posted a YouTube video about my cutting and anorexic past; I was called an attention seeker.

My friends and family were blind to my real feelings because I put on a very convincing mask. Now tonight after a week of internet silence across all my social media, here I was sat on the edge of a bridge overlooking a river holding a bottle of whiskey and my anti-depressants in the other hand.

In my pocket I felt my phone vibrate, maybe someone was concerned about my disappearing act. I just needed one person to care. It was a single Twitter notification stating I had a new follower so I opened it.

My eyes widened, this had to be some sort of joke. I have been obsessed with Pierce The Veil a couple of years ago, but when they hadn't released any new material since 2012 I kind of lost interest and moved onto other bands. I'd made a YouTube video about it and everything. Why would Vic of all people follow me? My question was soon answered when I received a DM from Vic.

@piercethevic: Is this Kate Lynch? The fit girl I just met at the club...I am not...drunk...

@fangirlkate: Sorry Vic, I'm Kate Lynch but not the Kate you're looking for!

Of course, Vic adding me was a mistake, to re-ask my earlier question why would he follow me?

@piercethevic: You look fit on your profile...what are you doing right now love? I could show...you a good time...

Wait a second, was Vic seriously trying it on with me because he couldn't find this other Kate? He'd obviously been drinking and needed a reality check if this is how he acted towards girls.

@fangirlkate: I'm sitting on a bridge with a bottle of whiskey and pills because I'm going to end my life tonight Vic...

@piercethevic: Are you one of those attention seeking girls? Do you want me to talk you out of jumping? Oh look I just found the Kate I was looking for...have a nice night...or not...bye x

I was shocked by his abruptness and before I knew it our conversation was over. Vic Fuentes just called me attention seeking when he didn't know anything about my life. I used to think he was inspirational but now I'd witnessed his ugly side. Now I didn't care, no one could talk me out of jumping.

VIC

The bottle of vodka was pulled out of my hand by my younger brother Mike. I slumped against the sofa in the tour bus and started to fiddle with my phone again, the first Kate Lynch wasn't the smoking hot girl I met in the club Tony and Jaime dragged me to earlier.

"Vic, you need to stop his self-destructive path. I'm your brother and I care about you."

I rolled my eyes and snorted at my younger brother, he drank more than me and even did drugs and here he was being a pure buzz kill.

"Mike I'm good. I found that Kate chic, I found someone else called Kate but she was about to end her life so I called her attention seeking...now this Kate from the club...she was like a ten..."

"YOU DID WHAT VIC!"

Mike yelled at me before ripping my phone out of my hand.

"GIVE IT BACK MIKE! SHE WON'T JUMP! THEY NEVER DO!"

Mike ignored me as he typed frantically on his phone while still keeping mine out of reach. Tony and Jaime walked into the front lounge just as I felt my eyelids get heavy. Maybe after a nap, I would feel better and Mike would let me have my phone back.

KATE

The whiskey stung the back of my throat as I downed at least half the bottle. My phone vibrated again and through the haze, I saw I had another Twitter notification.

Wow first Vic and now his younger brother, damn I felt special.

@ptvmike: Kate whatever you do ignore my brother he's drunk. Please don't jump!

@fangirlkate: Why do you care, Mike? No one cares...I've been offline a week and no one cares...

...

...

@ptvmike: Where are you, Kate?

I typed the location of the bridge but why did I tell Mike, I wanted to end my life didn't I?

@ptvmike: I'm on my way Kate don't do anything stupid please...for me...

@fangirlkate: What's more stupid than sitting on a bridge mixing whiskey and pills?

@ptvmike: At least get off the bridge Kate, for me, please?

@fangirlkate: Only because you asked nice Mikey...

I put the phone away and somehow managed to climb off the bridge. I said I wanted one person to care and Mike sounded like he cared. My head started spinning and my eyelids closed before I felt myself falling forwards onto the ground and blacked out.

MIKE

The bus pulled up near the bridge ten minutes later and I jumped out and ran like a crazy man. A girl with pastel blue hair lay slumped on the ground; I crouched down next to her and checked for a pulse, finding a weak one.

"Mike what the hell...oh shit is she okay?"

Tony stood behind me looking shocked, I shook my head and picked her up.

"We need to get her to the hospital turtle."

Kate was light in my arms as if she weighed nothing. I felt bad for whatever made her turn to this, she seemed so beautiful and innocent. I got her onto the bus and put her down on the sofa previously vacated by Vic just as Jaime stumbled in from the bunk area. He took one look at Kate and snapped his fingers.

"That's the chic off Vine, I love her videos."
