MIKE

I had a killer hangover and then the events of last night came flooding back to me all at once. I swear and throw the covers off me feeling slightly dizzy as I stand up quickly. I was going to murder my brother when I got my hands on him; he ruined my date with Kate.

"VICTOR!"

I run downstairs and find Vic sat in the lounge strumming his guitar. He glances up at me casually and smirks before turning his attention back to his guitar "did you have a nice sleep brother? You were a mess last night."

I wanted to wipe the smirk off his face but that would raise questions with the other guys, and Vic and I didn't want either Tony or Jaime to know we were fighting over a girl. Clenching my fist and trying to keep my breathing under control I sit down next to Vic.

"How did you know my ex worked there?"

Vic laughs, "Danielle and I went there once. Sure I put you in that situation, but it was all on you how you reacted and acted towards Kate. Ignoring a girl on a date never ends well."

I snap my head towards him, how the hell did he know about me ignoring Kate? As if sensing my confusion Vic pulls out his phone and opens a message between him and Kate discussing the events of our date and how she didn't know what it meant for us. I was a little pissed she ran to Vic for comfort when he set me up in the first place, if only she knew how much of a snake my brother could be they wouldn't be buddies.

"You mustn't have blown it that bad Mikey because she seemed generally concerned about how you felt once you woke up. Then again how much did you drink? Do you want some advice, little brother?"

I shake my head, knowing Vic was going to give me a lecture anyway "What advice big brother?"

"If you're going to date a girl with Kate's past involving alcohol, maybe don't get pissed off your head in front of her. I would say quit drinking, but that's never going to happen."

I watch Vic stand up and pat me on the shoulder before picking up his guitar and leaving the room casually. I sigh in frustration and lean back against the sofa, Vic was right I'd have a hard job quitting the alcohol but I shouldn't have gotten drunk around Kate with her past. I was supposed to help her, but instead, I ruined what should have been a perfect first date. I needed to make it up to her.

Pulling out my phone I open the message between us and start typing.

Mike (To Kate): Hi Kate, I'm sorry about the state I got in last night and ruining our date. I have no excuse for my actions other than I like to drink but should have taken your feelings into more consideration. Vic told me you were concerned about me earlier, thank you for being a genuine and kind person as I don't deserve you being nice to me. Okay now I'm rambling, I'm sorry again and hope this little blip in the road doesn't come between what we could be x

Yes it was long winded and a slight bit soppy but I didn't want to lose Kate out of my life, even if it meant only being friends with her then I'd take that. I was surprised when I got a fast response from her.

"Mike I'm going out to meet up with a friend, see you later."

I nod in Vic's direction as he walks out of the front door too nervous about opening the message from Kate. What if she hated me? What if she never wanted to see me again? I needed her to know that Vic knew my ex worked there and that we still had a good friendship, but nothing more because I had eyes for Kate.

Kate: Glad to hear you're feeling okay Mike, I'm allowed to be worried about people it's just in my nature I guess. Yes, it did hurt me that you got so drunk last night I had to drive you home, it also hurt how you ignored me for your ex...at least you're manly enough apologising, unlike most guys I've dated, I don't want this to come between us but I need some time Mike. Is that okay?

At least she didn't outright rip my heart out of my chest. I understood that she'd need time before I attempted to ask her out on another date.

Mike: I understand, are we still friends?

Kate: Of course we're friends Mike, I mean you're my giraffe who can reach high places and help me through a tough time x

Mike: Are you doing anything nice today?

Kate: I'm actually having lunch with Vic, didn't he tell you? He said he would...

She was having lunch with my brother, that explained why he was in such a hurry to leave the house just now because he knew I'd flip out if he was still here. I had to tell Kate that Vic knew my ex worked at the restaurant, just so she didn't think of him as the knight in shining armour.

Mike: Yeah he just left but was in a bit of a rush. Vic knew my ex worked at the restaurant and didn't tell me when I booked it...

Kate: Very well then I'll scold him, Mike. Have a good day

I needed a plan, a perfect date to end all dates. Kate would get to see that I was the Fuentes brother she needed to be with. But I'd need some help, and I knew two people who had recently spent time with Kate who could and would help me.

Mike (To Jaime and Tony): Can you guys come over to the house? I need help with a plan to make it up to Kate

Hime-Time: I'll be over in ten

Turtle: You screwed up Mike, but everyone deserves a second chance. I'll be over soon

~10 Mins Later~

"Hime and turtle are in the building."

I glance up from the sofa at Jaime who saunters into the house with his arms in the air while Tony shuffles in behind him slightly stunned by Jaime, though he should be use to be it by now.

"I can see that mate, now both of you sit down and help me figure out how to win Kate back from my brother."

"What's Vic got to do with this?" Tony sits down opposite me and raises an eyebrow.

Jaime sits next to me not quite sure what to say. It looked like Vic hadn't told his friends and bandmates that he was after the same girl as me and would use dirty plays to win her over. I sigh and run a hand through my hair.

"Vic likes Kate, in the same way, I like Kate. I have texts between us if you want to see?"

Jaime nods and I hand him my phone with the messages between me and Vic, he then hands the phone to Tony who glances over it before tossing it back at me.

Jaime scratches his chin "Where's Vic now?"

"Having lunch with Kate, playing the knight in shining armour. He knew my ex worked at the restaurant when he told me about it, but failed to mention that small detail."

Tony shakes his head in my direction "Yes it was a pretty mean move by Vic, but you could have ignored her and focused on your date instead of making Kate feel uncomfortable. No girl wants to be with a guy who's all over their ex Mike."

I saw Tony's point, Vic initiated the contact but I could have done more to dial it down. I wasn't pinning all the blame on Vic because I was in the wrong for taking the bait. Tony seemed quite close to Kate and it looked like he'd take her side over mine in this case.

"I want to make it up to Kate, prove to her that I'm not an alcoholic and that I'm capable of being a gentleman and pulling off the perfect make up date."

"We can help you with the second part Mikey, but we all know you like a drink or four."

I wanted to tell Jaime that he was wrong, but I had a solid reputation when it came to alcohol which I wasn't shedding anytime soon.

I sigh in defeat, "tell me what to do guys and I'll do it."

Tony's face lights up as he pulls out his phone "time to do a little YouTube stalking Mikey."
