Chapter Nine

I was pacing back and forth while Derek was on the phone, calling to find out any information about my mom. Then my cell phone began to ring as I hesitantly answer it on its second ring.

"Hello?" I start.

"Rowan! Thank God. You okay? Where are you?" Tony's voice spoke on the other line, relieved.

"Dad, how'd you find this number? It's new." I ask curiously.

"It wasn't easy, but McGee found a way to get around your encryption and we followed you aliases that you'd use." Tony answered. So like how I tracked Derek down. I'm getting to be too predictable, aren't I?

"No, no. You shouldn't have. People could be listening in on this conversation as we speak, Dad." I comment.

"It's still an encrypted line, Ro. It's secured. Tell me what's going on." Tony replied.

"My mom's alive. People are after me and have her captured. I can't come home. I'm sorry." I admit, shrugging at Derek who looked over at me.

"Are you alone right now, Ro?" Tony asked me, a little worried.

"Did you solve your case yet, Dad? If not, worry about that first, then we can talk." I answer softly.

"Yeah, we finished it. Turns out, it really was the cheating boyfriend." Tony told me, "Now, are you alone at the moment?"

"Yeah. I'm alone." I lied, not telling him about Derek to protect his cover. Besides, my dad already knows that Derek died. They were probably trying to track me right now. I've got to hang up. "I've got to go."

"Ro, wait. Let us help you. We can find your mom. Come back home." Tony said, "We need you. We miss you."

"I've only been gone a day." I reply, "Well, I got to go... I love you, Dad. See you whenever." I hang up before he can say anything else and look over at Derek.

"That's cutting it short, Rowan." Derek said as I nodded in agreement.

"Did you get her location, McGee?" Tony asked after a second Rowan hung up.

"Um, just the city and country- Moscow, Russia." McGee answered.

"Russia? What is she doing in Russia?" Tony asked aloud, confused.

"I've no idea. Hiding?" McGee answered.

"Are we going there?" Ziva asked.

"No. Knowing us, Rowan's probably leaving there now." Gibbs answered.

"Unless she wants us to find her." Tony added.
~~Flashback- One year ago~~

It's been two years since Derek proposed to me. We're actually still engaged. Weird, right? We got drafted back into war over in Iraq. After we come home this time, we were going to quit the marines and get other jobs where we could be together more.

I held my gun in place, finger on the trigger. Gunshots could be heard everywhere. The scene was a mess. People running, ducking for cover, shooting, killing, dying. That's war, I suppose.
