Nevada Lights High is the only place doomsday cult survivor Virgo Samuels could possibly belong. Situated on the frayed outskirts of Las Vegas, the school is flooded with self-righteous navel-gazers, premature burnouts, and preachers' daughters with good souls to waste. Virgo knows something about good souls and good souls gone bad. She knows about trying to escape a past that won't quit hanging on. At seventeen, she's been trying to escape her whole life.

Because Virgo is just as frightening as you've been led to believe. Virgo Samuels is a stone cold killer. At the age of 11 she murdered the cult members who raised her by putting antifreeze in their iced tea and razing their commune to the ground. Six years later, fresh out of juvenile detention, Virgo is set to begin a new life under a new name, but someone refuses to let her forget where she came from or any of the terrible things she's done.

The scorching sands of Death Valley are a hotbed of underground cults-in-training and someone is killing to stop them. Budding cult leaders begin dropping dead everywhere Virgo turns, leading the authorities to suspect they have a known killer in their midst. To avoid doing 25 to life for ritualistic murders she didn't commit, Virgo must track down her successor, the New Cult Killer, circa 2019, and reveal once and for all why she destroyed the Divine Zodiac Disciples, the only family she's ever known.
