You were stood on the deck of the Abigail with your hands folded and your arms rested over the railing. Looking out at the ocean never failed to calm you down and let's be honest, you need all the calm moments you could manage to get with the whole apocalypse business going on. You closed your eyes, just letting the sound of the waves hitting against the boat and the smell of the salty sea water ease your mind. A few minutes had passed before you heard footsteps coming from behind you. Opening your eyes, you saw Nick leaning against the railing next to you, looking at you with a slight smile on his face. "What are you doing up this late?" he asked. "I could ask you the same thing." You retorted, turning your head to look at him with a smile so he knew you were joking. "Well..." He said as he grabbed your hand and intertwined his fingers with yours, something he did often but you never thought of it as anything more than a comforting gesture. "I couldn't sleep so I decided to come out here to get some fresh air instead." You nodded and looked down at your hands, blushing slightly. You knew you had strong feelings for Nick before the breakout even happened, and with the more time you spent with him, your feelings only grew stronger. Honestly, you wished to confess how you felt to him soon since there was no telling how much time you had left with him, but you were so scared of losing him as well. "Same here, it's been so hard to get a solid hour of sleep these days." You sighed, pulling yourself out of your thoughts and looking back towards the dark ocean. You two stood in silence for a while, admiring the scenery and taking advantage of each other's presence. Suddenly, you felt Nick's fingers brush your cheek lightly as he turned your face towards him. "wha..." You started before you were silenced by his soft lips on yours. It took you a moment to register what was happening before you began to kiss him back, His hand didn't leave your cheek as he wrapped his other arm around your waist to pull you closer to him. You placed one of your own hands on the back of his neck and tangled the other in his wavy hair, pulling his head down so you could kiss him better. You slowly pulled away and looked into his eyes, slightly embarrassed at the fact that your cheeks were blazing red. "God, you have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." He chuckled. You laughed along with him and buried your head in his neck to hide your blushing face. "Come on, let's try to get some sleep." He whispered as he took your hand and led you over to the little couch that was placed against the railing and laid down with his hands behind his head. "You invite me to bed with you and your idea is to sleep outside?" You teased as you laid down next to him and pulled the blanket at the end of the couch up to cover you both. he instinctively wrapped his arm around your shoulder as you laid your head on his chest. "Hey, I thought it would be nice to sleep under the stars alright? Think of it as an apocalypse-worthy first date." He looked down at you with a smirk on his face. "Yeah yeah, whatever you say Romeo." You chuckled before reaching up to peck him on the lips. You both slowly drifted off to sleep and finally, after what seemed like ages, you were both able to sleep peacefully.
