Okay, so I've noticed a theme among fanfictions, where one character in an otp has some sort of disability (blind, mute, paralysed, lesser species I.e. Hybrids or slaves, etc) and the other half of the otp takes them in, keeps them safe and loves them despite their issues.
Or so it seems...
There was a comment chain a while back in a book called The Mute Boy (Poofless).
I'll put it here:

Now I want to disclaim this now and say I have absolutely nothing against this author, I'm merely trying to make a point.
All of the responses to my comments were along the lines of "He's not abusive, just strict."
Really?
Really?
Guys! Being "strict" has LITERALLY NO PLACE in a relationship. Relationships are founded on the principle of equality, which means that one person should not have the ability to be strict! That's considered abuse! Strictness is how adults talk to children who have done something wrong. It has absolutely zero place in romance.
I sincerely hope that when any of you are in a relationship, you have the ability to tell when someone is being abusive. Jealousy does not mean love, and instilling rules is one hundred percent not ok. Plus, if you leave a relationship, that's it. Don't ever get back into an old relationship to give someone "another chance" because no, you deserve better, and a good person doesn't need a second chance. They prove themselves the first time. That's another theme in fanfiction. If someone cheats on you, THEY'RE NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.
That's all I really wanted to say. Don't lie to yourself about what love is, because abusive relationships are a huge problem, and I care about you all too much to let something like that happen to any of you if there's anything I can do about it.
