Endless Love of a Mother

40 3 2

Hold them dear,
For they held you,
When you couldn't walk.
They whispered in your ear,
For only you to hear,
To teach us how to talk.

They caught us when we stumbled,
And picked us up upon a fall,
They would cheer us up with giggles,
And chase us down the hall.

But as we all got older,
We would slowly push away,
But their ray of love would never ever sway.
At times we would not listen,
At times we did not obey,

The teens, they are the feisty ones,
But later we would wish had listened,
After the mother stepped away.

We had to learn for ourselves
How tough the world can be,
And when we did we came crying back,
From the raging seas,
And the mothers, there they were,
Standing at the door,
Up all night to see us safely back to shore.

For those of us grown,
And out into the world,
We all know the value of mothers,
And all the things they've known,

They carried us in the sad times,
They laughed with us in our joy,
But most of all they loved us,
Even when we were like a tossed and broken toy.

For no love on this Earth compares
To a mother's,
Teaching us how to love one another.

Happy Mother's Day 2016.
