it is not where mum is from
it is not where dad is from
it is where their hearts guided them.

this land
is not where i would have gone
it is where people come for the sun and beach
it is where people stay for the calamity
it is where youthful hearts dream of leaving.

this land
is never going to leave me
it is where i made memories dipped in starry eyes
it is where i fell in love for the first time
it is where my broken heart spilled onto paper.

this land
is never going to satisfy me
it is where i started aching for something more
it is where i learnt about my mother's unceasing strength
it is where i found out how heartless life could be.

this land
is always going to haunt me
it is where my soul was made
it is where the streets map my heart
it is where my heart will long for.

this land
is both my prison and my paradise
it is a prison because of the people who shackle me
it is a paradise because of the people who free me
it is where my heart found a family even when my blood didn't.
