Chapter 28

-Katniss-

Now I understand. Now I finally understand the bond between Peeta and Willow. And I understand the bond because I feel that same strong bond to Rye.

Maybe it's something between a father and a daughter and a mother and a son, that no one else can understand, except that it actually is a bond.

I admit I'm a little concerned about the fact that Rye was a girl before he was born, and now he's a boy, but I just can't worry about that right now. I'm sitting here with my son in my arms and feel the love for him.

"Here Peeta, you can hold him", I say and give Rye to him.

He looks at Rye with so much love that I'm about to burst into tears again. How was I so lucky to get Peeta as the father to my children? I really don't understand that. How did I?

Haymitch must have called everyone else, because now they're coming through the door.

"MAMA!" Willow screams and runs up to me.

She jumps up on the bed and hugs me tight.

"Mama I thought you were going to die", she shouts.

"No Princess, your Mama just gave birth to your little brother", Peeta says and everyone falls silent.

"But it was going to be a girl", Julie says.

"Yes and apparently he was a girl before he ws born", I say and everyone looks at me in disbelief. "It was what our midwife told us".

Everyone looks at Rye.

"The doctors doesn't understand", Peeta says. "Apparently they will study this case very much, but they were right about one thing though; that he is something really magnificent".

"Papa I want to see him, he's my little brother", Willow shouts and everyone laughs.

Peeta walks to the bed and gives me Rye.

"What's his name Mama?"

"Ask your Papa, he's the one who named him", I say and smile at Peeta.

"Papa?"

"Rye", Peeta says. "Rye Haymitch Gale Mellark".

"What?" Haymitch and Gale just stands and gape and I laugh.

"Yep, and we want Julie and Gale as godparents", I say.

"Yes!" Julie shouts.

She runs up to me and hugs me.

"Mama, Papa look", Willow whispers and everyone looks at her.

Rye squeezes her thumb and smiles at her. It's the first time he's smiling and he's smiling at his big sister.

My heart melts and I take Peeta's hand and hold it tightly and he squeezes my hand at the sight of our two children.

Willow looks at Rye with so much love that I want to cry, she's already a loving big sister.

Rye and I can't go home until a week after Rye was born. He was three weeks early so the hospital wouldn't let us go. But now we're finally home.

When the welcome party is over Peeta walks with Rye to his cradle, while I walk Willow to her room.

It's pretty funny. The whole house is in natural colors, everything fits together perfectly ... until you enter Willows room. When you come into her room you're met by a shockingly pink room. Everything in her room is pink; walls, floor, carpets, bed, bedding, stuffed animals, furnitures, everything except the clothes in her pink drawer, her clothes has varied colors.
