Chapter 2 - The Starter

I finally made it! There I stood right out side Professor Juniper's Lab in Nuvema Town. I was so eager to pick my first starter Pokemon. Enthusiastically, I ran inside the lab to find a girl in a bright green hat on a computer.

"Wait, you're not Professor Juniper." I said.

The girl in the vibrant green hat stood up and smiled.

"Nope, I'm her assistant Bianca. Professor Juniper just left to go do some research on Route 17." Bianca said happily.

"Wait! Does this mean I'm not going to get a Pokemon today?!" I shouted.

Bianca just chuckled.

"Of course you are silly. Professor Juniper didn't take them with her. They're right here in this case." Bianca said as she grabbed a leather case from her desk.

"As you probably know, the starter Pokemon in the Unova region are Tepig, Snivy and Oshawott." Bianca then opened the case revealing 3 Pokeballs.

"Wait, there's 3? I thought there'd only be 2." I stated curiously.

"Why would you think that?" Asked Bianca.

"Well because my... rival, I guess, showed me his Tepig he got from you earlier today." I said.

"Oh you're talking about Joey." Bianca said.

I shook my head yes.

"Joey only got 1 of the several Tepigs we have. We always have several for new trainers. We want beginning trainers to pick whichever one they want without worrying about coming too late." Bianca stated.

"Oh I understand now. May I see the Pokemon outside of their Pokeballs?" I asked.

"Of course." Bianca smiled and released the Pokemon from their Pokeballs.

The 3 Pokemon cried their names and smiled.

Bianca began on the left side of the line.

"Here we have Snivy, the grass-snake Pokemon. Snivy is our grass type starter here in Unova." Bianca continued down the line. "Here we have Tepig, the fire-pig Pokemon. As you can probably tell, Tepig is the fire type starter in Unova. And finally, we have Oshawott, the sea-otter Pokemon. Oshawott is obviously the water type in Unova." Bianca said.

"Man, this is a tough decision. I think I'm going to have to go with Snivy though." I said.

"How come?" Asked Bianca.

"Well Joey told me something that got me thinking. He said he and his Tepig would go off and win the Unova League. I want to do the same thing so that means I'll be battling Joey along the way. And with Snivy, I can show my strength by beating his Tepig. But to do so I'll need to train hard and bring out mine and my Pokemon's full potential; and I want Snivy to be that Pokemon." I said confidently.

"Well then, looks like Snivy is yours." Bianca happily says.

I then go down to Snivy's level and say,"Hi Snivy, I'm Tyler. You and I are going to be best friends!"

Snivy seemed skeptical, but then he smiled and said,"Snivy!"

Bianca smiled. "I think Snivy likes you." She said. Bianca then walked over to me. "This is Snivy's Pokeball along with 10 Pokeballs for your journey." she said as she gave me everything.

"Thanks so much!" I said.

"Your welcome. Oh yeah, I almost forgot." Bianca ran to her desk and came back holding something. "Your very own Pokedex." Bianca said. "This is a special tool that gives you information on every Pokemon you see. Unless of course, you find a new kind of Pokemon. That would be quite amazing now wouldn't it?" Bianca said as she handed me the Pokedex.

"Thanks so much!" I said.

"No problem. Have fun on your adventure!" Bianca said as I began to walk out the lab.

"I will, thanks!" I said. Snivy and I were now on our way to Route 1 to officially begin our adventure!
