Nixon's father set out into the forest to gather sticks for the furnace, when suddenly a twig snapped right behind him. He spun around rather quickly to see what it was. He then turned back around and began to gather wood again, he had the strangest feeling someone.. or something was watching him. After he finished collecting wood for the furnace, more twigs snapped as he became more and more worried. He rushed home, throwing the wood into the basket next to the furnace. Nixon's mother asked his father what had happened, as she knew exactly what was going on, for she had similar experiences in her younger days. She knew just what would occur if he continued to go back to that dreaded forest.
