"So, what did you think of that history midterm yesterday?" asked Serah.
You pointed your finger into your mouth, signifying it was horrible.
"Yeah, I've gotta agree with [name]," added Yuffie. "It was pretty icky."
"Oh. I have to take it on Thursday." Serah wrung her hands. "History is my best subject... well, Cocoonian history is. I'm a little worried about the history of the other places."
It was Tuesday, and you and Yuffie were walking to school with Serah and Mishaela. You wouldn't admit it if asked, but you actually enjoyed being around the three sunny girls. They helped make sure you weren't in a dumpy mood, and if you were they'd help bring you out of it.
It seemed like everyone had forgotten about the attack on Friday. Even Snow, who you saw in the hallways yesterday, was laughing and joking around with Gadot like he hadn't totally freaked out over getting shot. Everyone was back to their normal selves, so you figured you should do it, too.
"See ya, girls," you said to the two when you'd reached the building. "Weaponry awaits."
Mishaela smiled. "Monsterology awaits," she added.
"And so does dance class," finished Serah.
You held back a giggle, trying to picture Serah dancing in your mind. Then, you all branched off.
In the classroom, Logan was talking to Fang, Lightning, and Spencer-Lynn about something. You didn't see Kimahri anywhere, but that was nothing new; he usually sorted things out in the supply closet until class started. "Good morning," Logan said when you'd taken your seats. "Care to join us?"
Yuffie shrugged. "Sure," she said. "What about?"
"I've rearranged the lesson plan a little," replied Logan.
"Whoa, can you do that?" you asked, surprised.
Logan obviously knew what you meant, so he explained, "Kimahri has taken a short leave, as have a few other teachers on the staff. I'm not sure why; I guess that information is reserved for actual teachers." He smiled. "So, I'm your teacher until further notice, and I say that today, we'll be covering a much-needed lesson on defense."
"Hold up." Fang put her hand up (like a 'talk to the hand' gesture). "If you're our teacher until further notice, and that info is reserved for teachers, doesn't that give you the right to-"
"Nope. Already asked." Logan looked a bit disappointed. "All they'd tell me is that Kimahri won't be back for a while, as he's on some important journey, something or other. If I had to guess, he probably had to go back to Mount Gagazet. Now..."
"If he has to go to Mt. Gagazet, why are other, non-Ronso teachers with him?" asked Spencer-Lynn.
"Yeah, you're right," agreed Fang. "What's more, last semester he mentioned something about being an outcast of his tribe. He wouldn't be going back there anytime soon."
Logan sighed and put his head on the table. "You're not going to let this drop, are you, girls?" he asked.
"Hell, no." Fang stood up and began to pace slowly. "Do you at least know the other teachers that are gone?"
"Yes, of course." Logan thought. "Mr. Fair has taken leave, and so has Laguna, I think Thunder has, Sazh is gone, and the teacher for regular-level music; but I forget his name."
"They're all men," you noted.
"And most of them are freshman teachers," added Yuffie. "You don't think they just decided to take a vacation because we're that terrible?" Her expression looked worried.
