As we walked into our classroom a few people were already sitting there and talking about their songs. John, one of the boys in the class who would play the guitar and bass if it was necessary, was currently busy tuning his guitar. My eyes fell on Megan, who was standing behind John and talking to him like a waterfall and you could see that he was getting slightly angry.
"Hey Megan, I don't know if you noticed, but John is trying to tune his guitar and that doesn't work if you talk the whole time!" I shouted over at her and she looked at me angrily. "Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?" she snapped and I laughed. "Actually someone who knows when to shut up, in contrast to you." John said out of the blue und his eyes widened as he noticed, that he had just said that out loud. He looked at me and we soon both began to laugh uncontrolably. "Ugh, get out of my face suckers." Megan said and sat down on a chair far away from John and me.
"Good move!" I said to John as I sat down next to him. "Thanks, but I think I have to thank you for your understanding with the tuning." he responded and looked at his guitar. "But I think you are one out of 4 people in here who understands that. By the way, what are you and the girls going to sing?" he asked as he stared at me awaiting. "Well they decided to sing Don't let me down by Emily Hemmings." my reply sounding somehow scared. "They? So you really don't want to sing in school, am I right? None of us ever heard you sing!" John said smiling while he shook his head. "I just feel more comfortable when I can play the instruments. More my thing I guess." I tried to avoid any more comments about that topic and gladly he started to play guitar right after.
John was completely right though. For me, I had decided when I started school here, that I would never let anyone hear my singing voice, because it would be too obvious who I am. Until now I was able to keep it a secret and it's only about 4 weeks left of senior year. And I am not planning on ruining it by singing. To my favour my teachers never pressured me into something, because at least all the music teachers and the principal knew about my real identity. They did everything to keep it a secret as well and I was so thankful for that.
I stood up, smiled at John and walked over to the girls, where I sat down. A few seconds later my teacher Mrs Smith walked in the door completely stressed out and more slammed the door than closed it. The bell rang and everyone sat down.
My teacher let out a loud sigh and sat down on her desk. "Okay class, so first of all I want all of you to tell me the songs you will sing for the upcoming school concert. Tell me the one you want to sing and at least one other if there might be realization problems with your first choice." She explained to us and I looked at the girls. "Okay Amy. Who will you sing with and which song?" Mrs smith started with her. "Okay we want to sing Don't let me down by Emily Hemmings and if not that one, we want to sing Long way home by 5 Seconds of Summer." She said super excited and Mrs Smith looked at me. "Is that so?" she asked rasing an eyebrow at me and I nodded, while I shrugged. "I'm responsible for the instrumental stuff." I told my teacher and she nodded, noting everything down.
It went on like that until she had the groups and all songs noted down. She then put everything away and looked at us. "So guys, today we have some guests who you may or may not know. And no, no former students of our school. At least not that I would know." she said and we all waited for her to go on.
"I bet it's someone from another school who has to help with all the technical stuff for the concert." Chelsea said from behind me. "Yeah, I guess." I answered her and we brought our attention back to our teacher. Suddenly we heard some sounds from outside of the class room. It sounded familiar and I knew it was familiar when Amy, Chelsea, Hannah and Hailey all gave each other the look and smiled. "Is that the melody of Permanent Vacation?" Amy asked and the others nodded eagerly. "Oh great the school band is rehearsing." I cried out and they all laughed. "Hey at least they have great taste in music." Hailey exclaimed.
