Clarke's POV
There was an uneven pounding in my chest. Sweat pooled down my forehead, my feet hit the ground with loud thumps. The dark sky enclosed around me as I ran. I could still hear the hollering of the group of boys that chased me. I turn the corner panting my back slumping against the brick wall.
"What are you in such a hurry to get away from"
A light feminine voice asks, a small figure appearing on the fire escape above me. I could tell it was a woman, but the only thing I could see was the silhouette of her body, and the lit end of a cigarette between her fingers. She raises it, to what I assume are her lips, taking a long drag, then pulling it away.
"Some drunk-guys--a few--blocks back started-- following me and catcalling" I reply to the girls question taking quick breaths in between my words. The lit cigarette falls and the light is quickly put out. It was dark, but I could see the girl climbing down the latter and walking over to me. As she makes her way towards me the street light in the distance catches oh her face, confirming that she was in fact a woman. I draw in a long breath as I see how beautiful she is. Her bright green eyes meet my blue ones. I watch as she sticks out her hand. I slowly extend mine to shake hers.
"I'm Lexa, Lexa Woods."
She wears a smirk on her lips. I can hear the boys drawing close around the corner.
" I'm Clarke Griffin"
I smile slightly as I retract my hand, I turn my head around the corner to see the boys jogging towards us. I quickly jerk my head back.
"Come on. Miss Clarke Griffin, you can hide on my fire escape with me until they pass."
I nodded following the girl I had just met less than five seconds ago. I watched as she jumped up grabbing the latter to the fire escape so we could go up. I mirrored her movements as Lexa climbed. Once we make it up to the little balcony off of what I assumed was her apartment she plopped down in a white plastic lawn chair. She motions for me to sit in the identical chair across from her, in which I obliged.
"So Clarke Griffin, why is such a pretty lady such as yourself running out on the side walk at two in the morning on this fine day."
Her words are dripping with sarcasm only intriguing me more about her.
" I was trying to get to my friend Octavia's apartment, but I got lost after leaving that new bar on 4th street."
Lexa chuckled, causing butterfly's to arise in my stomach.
"You're a long way from 4th street your feet must be--"
Lexa stops mid sentence, and I turn around to see the group of boys that were chasing me earlier as they round the corner of the ally only to find it empty. I find myself holding my breath as they search the ally cussing and hissing as they come up empty handed, thankfully not even thinking of looking above them. After they leave I let out my deep breath.
"--killing you"
Lexa says. I turn to her confusion written on my face.
"Your feet, they must be killing you"
She says clarifying what she was trying to say before. I nod slowly. We sit in a comfortable silence while Lexa lights another cigarette taking yet another long drag. She extends her arm offering it to me. I take the killing machine from her and place it between my lips breathing the poison into my lungs. I smoked often, in fact I actually had a pack in my back pocket. So much for trying to quit this month. I handed the cigarette back to the green eyed beauty exhaling the smoke into the air. I stand.
" I should get going I still have to find my friends apartment. Uh, thanks for letting me hide here" I say about to climb back down the latter.
" I could give you a ride if you'd like , those high heals can't be doing much good for your feet."
Lexa offers. I wasn't denying these shoes did hurt, but I barley knew this girl. I sigh.
" I mean you don't have to I can--"
I try, being cut off mid sentence.
"Just let me get my keys, wait here."
Lexa stands shuffling past me and into the building attached to the balcony. I smile slightly to myself standing there like an idiot. She returns moments later with a jacket and keys in her hand. She nods to the latter and I climb down it reaching the ground I step to the side letting her climb down behind me. I shiver.
" are you cold?.. Of course you are- it's 30 degrees out an your wearing a dress. Here."
She hands me her jacket.
"Thanks."
I say slinging it over my arms. She pushes the latter back up so no one could climb it. I follow the tall girl in sweat pants towards the street lights, and around the corner to the gray Jeep parked next to the side walk. I open the door to the passenger side as she opens hers.
"So Clarke, where to?"
Lexa asks turning the key in the ignition.
"2371 Maine street"
I place the seat belt over my chest as she backs out of the parking spot. She uses one hand to turn on the radio to a low volume, some pop song spewing from the speakers. As we near Octavia's house I almost wish it was a longer drive. She parks the Jeep turning off the engine.
"Welp Clarke, I quests this is goodbye I hope you make it inside okay"
Lexa says slightly frowning. I place my hand on the door handle, but linger for a moment.
"Thank you Lexa, I wouldn't have made it here by myself."
I nod in her direction smiling lightly.
" don't mention it is. May we meet again Clarke Griffin" she says as I open the door and step out. She starts the engine as I close the door waving goodbye. She pulls out driving away as if she was never there. As I make my way to O's apartment I realize I'm still wearing her jacket. I reach my hands in the pocket and pull out a fancy looking business card. It reads.
Lexa Woods
Trikru Inc.
(405)- 236- 7521
I smile to myself. When I reach Octavia's door I can't help but think of the interaction I just experienced.
" may we meet again"
I whisper to myself entering O's apartment. I slide my back against the door smiling I bring the sleeve of the jacket to my nose breathing in the sent of Miss Lexa Woods, the girl with beautiful green eyes.
