so much hatred / stuffed into a little body / hatred for herself and her race / for the color of her skin / for the shape and size of her eyes / for her gender / and what it effects when she walks the streets / she hates herself even when / the fireworks bursting outside / are for her / even when the cake on the dinner table / is decorated with frosting / spelling out her name / and in the midst of celebration / she compares herself / to others and she hates what she sees
the universe / containing of the stars / of the planets / of the moons / of the asteroids / wonder and weep over what went wrong / because suddenly nobody loves who they are anymore / even when they have every reason to
