I am riding my pennyboard down to Chris' restaurant to talk to him about my depression.

I'm finally ready to talk about it after a few days.

He was sweeping in front of his place.

"Oh, hello Mackenzie" he said giving me a hug then I sat down.

"I have special news for you Babygirl" he said. That's what he called me.

"What?" I asked confused...

"I talked to your foster mom and asked her if I could adopt you" he looked excited.

I smiled.

"She said she doesn't know what the point is, since your getting kicked next year. I told her that you have been coming to my restaurant ever since you first came here with your foster parents when you were 5. She says that she has to get your paper work which is gonna take a month or two." He explained.

"So are you adopting me?!" I excitingly asked.

"I believe so!" He said.

I got up and hugged him tight.

"You can live with me for as long as you want. You won't be as sad anymore. You can work here with me and I can pay you.... I can get you into therapy and get you pills for your depression" he said smiling.

I was so happy.

"Thank you so much Chris" I hugged him tight.

He kissed my forehead. "Of course" he said.

"Do you mind helping me run the restaurant today? I'm short a man" he asked.

"Only till 8" I said.

I skateboarded back to the house  as quick as I could to brag to my foster siblings.

I got to the house and walked through the door.

My foster parents called my name into the kitchen.

they saw the smile on my face.

"I see you have heard." My foster mom said.

I nodded in excitement.

"Too bad we don't have your birth certificate." My foster dad said with an evil laugh at the end.

My smile turned into a frown.

My face turned red in sadness and anger hearing them laugh evilly downstairs.

I ran into my room,

Closed the door,

Ran to my dresser,

Grabbed the metal,

And went on the roof.

Just like I always do when I get pissed off.

Once again, I rolled up my sleeves and ran the metal slab on my bare tan skin.

One cut, two cuts, three..... And more.

So much pain.

I bled on my white shirt

"Shit" I said trying to get the blood off.

"Again?" I recognized the voice.

"Kian, I'm not in the mood" I yelled.

I cried.

I kept cutting.

"Okay, I'll be quiet." He said looking back out to the ocean.

There was silence.

"I can't just sit here and let you do this" he said.

He climbed off of his roof onto mine and sat next to me.

He took out a pen from his pocket. And started drawing a butterfly on top of my scars

"What the hell are you doing?" I asked, kind of annoyed.

"It's called the butterfly affect," he explained.

"Draw a butterfly where you cut, and if you cut it, that the poor butterfly can't fly anymore. If you let the butterfly fade, then the butterfly lived and so did you" he finished drawing it.

I rolled my eyes.

He also took off his shirt.

He then tied it around my open wounds.

I looked at his bare chest.

He had a six pack and some freckles on his shoulders.

I kind of blushed.

"There ya go" he said. And he looked into my eyes.

He had brown doughy eyes. How cute.

It felt like the whole world stopped when he looked at me.

"Ya know I could've just gotten band aids from inside." I giggled.

"I want you to have that shirt" he said back.

"Idk how I'm gonna get the blood stains out" I said.

"Just soak it in soap and rinse with cold water. It always worked for me" he explained.

Then all of a sudden a firework went off and scared the shit outta me I nearly fell off the roof.

If Kian didn't catch me I would've been on the ground....

Awkward.

After that, I laid back on the roof watching the fireworks.

As did Kian, right next to me.
