Something Better

Sometimes it's not a thundercloud,

a rocket,

or a mountain top.

Sometimes it's life,

and we have to get through it,

move on, and become something brighter.

Find the warmth in your soaked, stubborn skin.

He's in there.

He's fighting for you.

When the sting of exposure comes

and you're left without that hand to hold.

He's there.

When your eyelashes are pooling,

streams down your volcanic face.

He's there.

When your restless,

no ear to call to, no more buzz in your right pocket.

He speaks.

You want to be washed,

you want it to go.

You want the scar to dissipate, but he's saying "I have something better."

What's a warrior without a battle wound?

What is a fight without a flag?

Why does my heart feel warmer,

my fingers feel cooler,

and my throat coated?

I wanna go home.

He promises to take me.

But not today.

Because there's something better.

I wait.
