Chapter 23
Aubrey's POV
I called one of the taxi quickly and told the driver to follow the car in front of us. Watching the boys trying to squeeze in the car was impossible, so I saw Ben knocking on the window of the taxi I'm in and I opened the door, letting Ben in. I shuffled on the other side to let Ben have space.
"Too big to fit in there?" I teased.
"Shut up." he said gruffly. I decided to let that one slide and just stared at the view outside. It's actually really beautiful, there's more green scenes than the Perth's one. I think I might move here someday.
Nah.
Frogs were jumping up and down inside my stomach and my heart rate quickened. I'm going to save Alice! I can't believe she's alive either, and I also wondered why she left. Those questions left me as I concentrated on how I will get her once we get there. Oh my god!
A few turns and the scenes outside suddenly became darker, as if the weather just changed suddenly. I looked at Ben's side to see if he was confused as well. He doesn't look like it. I turned again to see it getting less lighter than before. I'm getting spooked, like this is Halloween already.
The car in front of us stopped in front of a house and I told the driver to stop as well. I paid him twenty dollars, but Ben moved my wrist away and handed his twenty dollars. I slapped his hand away and almost gave in my money but he grabbed my hand and gave his in. I got frustrated and struggled on his grip.
"Can we at least hand in both of our twenties and ask for a ten each?" I said helplessly. The driver got amused by this. I glared at the driver but I didn't get to see his reaction because Ben pulled me out.
"That was a no thank you." I said once the taxi drove away.
"I don't care, if I'm inside the taxi, I pay for it." Ben said simply. I sighed. No use in arguing with him anyway. The boys are already inside someone's lawn and we followed them. I was about to change my mind because of the scary-looking house, the dead bushes and the dark street, wait, the street name IS the Dart Street. Ha.
"Are you guys ready?" Justin whispered, avoiding my gaze. I got hurt but otherwise nodded. I'm here for Alice, not him.
"Remember the plan last night? Alright lets go!" Sam whispered-yelled. Justin took a few steps back and then lunged to the door, which opened without hesitation.
There was an eerie sound inside the house, which spooked me more. Then suddenly a few people came out of the house and attacked us. There was about five of them, and they attacked the boys. Luckily the boys knew how to fight (hopefully), and distract them. I quietly came inside and silently looked for Alice.
The house was quiet small, which was going to be really easy to search for her, no luck intended. I peeped at a room and saw a very dark, messed up lounge room, and on my right, there's a kitchen, but it looks like no one was using it. I'm actually in a small hall, with only four rooms on the sides. Suddenly, I heard a girl screamed and a sound of a whip was made, and the scream quietened. Panic arises me and I followed the sound of a muffled scream. The owner must've been stupid to let the sound loudly recognised, but I don't care.
I found the room, but the door was locked. It's time to kick in my werewolf strength and ninja skills, I thought slyly. One, two, three...
I knocked the door with my arm and it barged opened. I pulled a ninja move and can't really see a thing, because the room was dark. Luckily there was a switch next to me and I flicked it on. The sight in front of me killed it and luckily I was strong enough today, otherwise I'd faint.
There's an unconscious girl on the bed, her wrists got tied up on the bed stand, naked. This is like a sex room, but what I heard was not it. There was a man in his late forties, with his black mask covering his evil face and a buff body, with a whipper on his right hand. He stared at me intensely, and then back at the girl who was on the bed. His lips curled up into a smirk before walking toward me.
"Your Alice's twin sister, aren't you?" His voice was deep, but otherwise scary, "Since she won't answer any of my damn questions, why don't you answer it?"
"Leave my sister alone!" I hissed. He just laughed like what I said was funny, but it was totally not.
"Listen bitch." He said, "I need to know the secret of the rare gift you both have. If you don't tell me, I will kill her, and maybe you too." He cackled. There was a lot of shuffling from the hall room and my panic slightly turned down when the boys came to my rescue. The guy raised up a rifle at the girl and my heart rate quickened.
"What are you going to do about it huh?" The man said, "I can kill her in a heartbeat. If you men try to knock me first, I can just pull this trigger on my fingers." He turned his gaze at me, "So Aubrey, your choice, your consequences."
I remembered my Science teacher always said that back in year eight. She said make a choice, and whatever's wrong, the consequences are ours. I wonder if this man were related to her for some reason. I made a plan. I raised both arms in the air for surrender. The boys were surprised at my reaction.
"Aubrey, don't." Justin pleaded. Oh, he doesn't know my plan yet. I sent him a small wink, hoping that the man didn't see it. Justin realised and the man still got the smirk on his face, but bigger.
"I see you had surrendered." He chuckled, his rifle still pointing at the girl, "Now tell me the proportions."
I actually has no idea about the rare gift that I got, like literally NO idea. My grandma didn't tell me yet because she said the truth will come sooner. Of course I believed her, it's that kind of bullshit that your parents tell you "We promise that we'll stop annoying you in front of your friends!". Maybe it's just because my grandma is old and wise. Not.
Okay back to the scene.
I had I lie, of course, in order to stop him from triggering the rifle, "Oh, um, well, there's the wisest wolf on earth that gives the gift to a random baby, which is me and Alice." I said, walking closer to him, "In order to get to him, there's a special place, which you'll be going soon. Actually it can be now."
I reached for his wrist, to drop the rifle, and knock him out, rather than I was thinking, the rifle was bent toward my direction because I pushed his wrist back as he tried to shoot Alice. I screamed as the bullet went flying, and directly, toward me.
Like those physics people said, your life replayed inside your head before you die. I remembered when I was four, I chucked a rubber duck at Justin's face and the memory when I graduated primary school. I smiled. I fell on the floor as it hit my arm, slowly, and I closed my eyes.
The world really hates me, but hey, I think I smiled when I died. My wish came true.

"Doctor, is she okay?" A familiar male voice said.
"Like I told you, she's still unconscious. You can't really tell if she's going to wake up sooner or not. Just wait and hope for the best." Another male voice said, preferably the doctor. I blinked my eyes a few times, but the brightly lit room didn't let me open it wide. When I got used to it, I saw Justin looking worried.
"Water." I croaked. The two heads turned into my direction, but Justin's eyes are already filled with tears.
"Aubrey!" He cheered. He leaped up on me and hugged. A pain shot through my arm and I hissed.
"I think you should stand back Mr. Fin, she's in pain." The doctor said. I sent him a grateful look because I am in pain.
"I don't care, she hasn't been waking up in a long time, how would you feel doctor?" He said. I rolled my eyes.
"I have to agree with the doctor, Justin. I am in pain." I smirked. He quickly reverted his steps before giving the doctor an apologetical look.
"He is a doctor, after all." He muttered. I, obviously can hear it.
"Says the person who declined the fact." I sniggered. He shot me daggers look. I smiled.
"Okay, since she's in a good condition you can talk to her. She has to get checked up before she can leave. Understand me?" We nodded. The doctor left and I realised I'm in a private room. I turned my gaze to Justin before nudging my face to the water glass with straw next to the bed.
"Waateeeer." I growled. I'm so damn thirsty, yet he didn't care. He absentmindedly grabbed it and placed the straw inside my mouth. I gulped all of it down quicker than I used to. I wonder how many hours I've been in the hospital.
"How many hours have I been here?" I asked him. He gave me a sad smile.
"Two weeks."
"Holy...care to explain what happened?" I said. Two damn weeks! I've never knew I'd be that long to get unconscious.
"Well, you were shot, in the shoulder, thank god." He said, "You were fine. Luckily you pushed his wrist a bit further back before the bullet get to your heart, and also he didn't use silver, or else you won't heal properly. Lucky." I had to agree. I'd be dead if I don't stop, "Continue."
"When you got shot, he has no bullets left because he's a dumbshit, he used the last one on you. Of course, we knocked him out, and the polices got him and his gangs behind the bars. We covered Alice with a cloth we found nearby the bed and covered her, then we carried her. There was a lot of scratches and big bruises on her body, but otherwise, she survived." He smiled, I smiled.
"Where is she?" I said.
"She's in another room. She's sleeping because she's unconscious about the pain, otherwise, you took the bullet, Aubrey, you're the hero."
I feel like I'm on cloud nine. Being a hero was what I always wanted to be when I grow up, which I am now, my dear readers, a hero. I grinned like an idiot and did a 'yippee' sound. Barf, barf.
"You're so retarded." He said. What's with people calling me that?
"Your face." I replied lamely. I don't feel like arguing over a stupid thing right now, because I'm a hero. Let me cherish the moment of me being a hero. Oh gosh, I should make a book about me being a hero. Okay, I gotta stop saying that I'm a hero. Bahaha, I just did. So punny.
"You're too tired to even think of a better comebacks, I see." Justin said, "Oh well, you must be really tired. You want me to buy something from the Subway?"
I nodded eagerly, not even thinking twice. Of course, hospital foods are icky anyway. Vegetables soup? I'll pass.
"Wait, wait waaaaait." I yelled. Justin stopped mid-way and turned to face me.
"Yeah?"
"Did the doctor took the bullet off me yet?"
"Yeah they did." Phew. I won't be staying here for long anyway because werewolves like me heal very quickly, make that half quicker because I'm half human, but that's still awesome because if some bitches tries to cat fight with me, they'll loose without even trying. Ha.
Twenty minutes later with me being bored, staring at the ceiling above me and making imaginations inside my head, Justin came in with my food, with the smell aroma filled the room. My tummy rumbled, screaming food! Once he placed it on my lap, I just eat it like a pig.
"I almost forgot how you eat when you're hungry." He said, amused. I glared at him.
"Shut up, a hero must eat." I emphasised the hero part.
"You can stop saying hero all the time, anyways it's just a bullet, sheesh." Justin said.
"A bullet, no one will take a bullet for another person," I said, pointing to my heart, "unless it's me, well you can say it again and again." He rolled his eyes.
"Whatever."
After three minutes of me eating and Justin tapping on his phone. I aside my leftovers of tomatos and laid back down, "When can I see Alice?" I said.
"When you both heal, head home, and do whatever you want." He said and I nodded. I think he was trying to say that we should both meet when we're healthy and clean, not smelly and sick.
"When can we go home?" I asked.
"Tomorrow morning. We're going straight to Sam's mansion and celebrate." He smiled. He can sense that I'm getting jittery and excited.
"I can't wait to meet our Alice, Justin."
"Me too, Aubrey, me too."
